John M. Starcher, Jr. is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in the health care industry. [6] He currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bon Secours Mercy Health, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health systems and the fifth largest Catholic Health system in the U.S. [6] Since 2018, he has been at the forefront of innovative initiatives that strive to deliver efficient and effective health care. [6] His background includes previous roles as CEO of Mercy Health and Health Management Associates, where he demonstrated business acumen by driving operational excellence and strong performance in large hospital systems. [6] He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo. Dr. Wael Haidar is the President, Clinical Operations at Bon Secours Mercy Health. Prior to this role, he served as the chief clinical officer for the system. Before joining Bon Secours, Dr. Haidar spent 10 years at Mercy Clinics in Des Moines, Iowa, where he held various positions including staff physician, medical director of the Adult Hospitalist Program, vice president of hospital-based physicians, and ultimately chief physician executive and president of Mercy Clinics. Dr. Haidar earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut and holds a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He completed fellowships with the Mayo Clinic in behavioral neurology and geriatrics, and his internal medicine residency at Michigan State University. He also previously served as senior vice president of provider networks for Bon Secours Health System.
Don Kline is the Chief Operating Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health, responsible for operational leadership across their U.S. markets since 2022. He has over 30 years of experience in hospital management, finance, and operations leadership. Kline joined Mercy Health in 2007 and held roles such as interim Chief Operating Officer for the Cincinnati Region and market president of Mercy Health – Youngstown. Before becoming COO of Bon Secours Mercy Health, he served as a ministry group president overseeing markets in Ohio, South Carolina, and New York. Prior to joining Mercy Health, he held CFO positions at Heritage Valley Health System and Trinity Health System. Jason Szczuka is the Chief Digital Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health and also serves as president of its digital investing arm, Accrete Health Partners. His career in healthcare began after working in the government sector and at GE Capital, followed by a role as in-house counsel for UnitedHealthcare, which sparked his interest in how digital technology could improve healthcare. He subsequently left corporate America to start his own companies. He has held transformative positions at companies like GE Capital and UnitedHealthcare over the past 20 years. Szczuka holds a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School and is a member of the State Bar of California. He also earned Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degrees from Southern Methodist University. His expertise includes digital health, strategic planning, and business development. He was recognized by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the top chief digital officers of health systems to know in 2022 for his work in leveraging technology to enhance patient experience and access to care.
Michael Bezney is the Chief Legal Officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health. In this role, he is responsible for ministry-wide legal operations, as well as governance, foundation, risk, internal audit, and advocacy functions. Bezney joined Mercy Health in 2002 as senior vice president and general counsel and served as Mercy Health's chief legal officer before being named to the Bon Secours Mercy Health executive team. Prior to his time at Mercy Health, he was vice president and associate general counsel for Advocate Health Care. He was also a partner in the healthcare law department at McDermott, Will & Emery and an associate in corporate law at Johnson & Gibbs. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas. Bezney played a significant role in the merger of Bon Secours Health System and Mercy Health. He was recognized as a 2019 C-Suite Award winner by the Cincinnati Business Courier.
David Cannady is the Chief Strategy Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health. He joined the organization in 2017 and is responsible for the innovation and strategic planning teams, driving the system's strategy agenda and leading service line planning. His professional background includes experience in healthcare operations, consulting, and strategic growth. Before his role at Bon Secours Mercy Health, Cannady was the vice president of the Strategic Resource Group at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), where he led strategic planning and consulting for growth initiatives and hospital operations. Chris Hilton is the Senior Vice President, Enterprise Optimization and Integration at Bon Secours Mercy Health. In this role, he focuses on building scalable solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity, ultimately supporting the organization's mission to improve community health and well-being. He also leads the integration management office team, which ensures new partnerships and agreements meet their objectives. Before his current position, Hilton served as chief financial officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health hospitals and integrated operations and was senior vice president for financial operations. Prior to the merger of Bon Secours Health System and Mercy Health, he provided financial leadership for key support services at Mercy Health, including supply chain, accounts payable, reimbursement, capital, and long-range planning. He also oversaw finance and performance for Ensemble Health Partners. Before joining Mercy Health, Hilton was the chief financial officer of Aviation West Charters (Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance). He also spent a significant portion of his career at Health Management Associates, where he held the position of senior vice president of operations and finance. Hilton began his professional career as an Accountant at Draffin & Tucker, LLP. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Georgia Southern University and is a Licensed Certified Public Accountant.
Sandra Mackey is the Chief Marketing Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health, overseeing marketing, communications, digital, brand, and creative strategy. She joined Mercy Health in 2017 before the merger that created Bon Secours Mercy Health. With over 30 years of experience, her background includes serving as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Arthritis Foundation and as Executive Director of Market Strategy at Emory Healthcare. Earlier in her career, she held various public relations and marketing roles. Odesa Stapleton is the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH). She joined BSMH in 2019. Her role involves overseeing diversity, equity, and inclusion education and training, leadership councils, employee resource groups, language services, inclusive local hiring, affirmative action, and human resources policy and compliance. Stapleton emphasizes the importance of hiring and retaining talent that values human dignity and reflects the communities served by the health system. Prior to her time at BSMH, Stapleton served as the director of human resources and operations at Neighborhood Health Services Corporation in Plainfield, N.J., for nearly five years. She also held the position of executive director of human relations for the Manatee County School District in Bradenton, Fla. Her previous experience includes roles as director of talent management at Verizon Communications, director of staffing, recruitment and employment at Delta Air Lines, and a labor and employment attorney for the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway Company. Stapleton is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and earned her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, and Alpha Phi Omega. She is also a certified secondary teacher and, early in her career, researched and wrote labor and employment law books for businesses at Summers Press. Nicole Martel is the Chief Rewards & Well-being Officer at Bon Secours Mercy Health. She has extensive experience in benefits, well-being, and associate health management. Her responsibilities have included the strategic design and execution of health and welfare benefits and well-being programs. Martel has also worked with external partners and internal leaders to manage healthcare costs and improve employee health.
