Atrium Health has officially opened its $1.5 billion innovation district in Charlotte, known as The Pearl. This 20-acre development is designed to be a central hub for biomedical research, surgical training, and community development. The project, a collaboration between Atrium Health and Wexford Science & Technology, includes the new Charlotte campus of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the North American headquarters of IRCAD, a global surgical training institute. The medical school is scheduled to welcome its first students in July 2025, with plans for increasing enrollment in the coming years, while surgical training at IRCAD North America is set to commence in September. Atrium Health, part of Advocate Health, stated that The Pearl is anticipated to generate over 5,500 jobs on-site and more than 11,500 total jobs across the region within 15 years. [3, 5]
