Acadia Healthcare is facing renewed scrutiny over alleged abuse at its now-closed Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center in Lemont, Illinois. A New York Times investigation reported alleged instances of patient suicide and rape at the facility. Acadia closed Timberline Knolls on February 13, 2025, six months after a lawsuit was filed in August 2024 alleging sexual assault and rape of a patient by a staff member. Acadia stated the closure was due to changes in the landscape for the specialized programs offered there since its acquisition 13 years prior and called the New York Times story inaccurate and a conflation of historical incidents.
