She has led the island's two largest mental health hospitals and currently is the Chief Executive Officer of Sistema San Juan Capestrano, mental health hospital system that operates a 172 bed hospital, nine partial clinics island wide and a mental health emergency unit in Naguabo. Since 2013, Marta leads San Juan Capestrano health system. Rivera Plaza was president of the Puerto Rico Hospital Association from 2016 to 2017. She is a licensed Health Services Administrator with a Master's Degree from the University of Puerto Rico medical school.
