Community Health Systems (CHS) is continuing its strategy to expand its ambulatory surgery center (ASC) footprint despite a slight decrease in lower-acuity volumes during the first quarter of 2025. Community Health Systems (CHS) reportedly experienced IT outages impacting multiple hospitals after data accessed by its Oracle Health electronic health records (EHR) system was deleted. The outage, which lasted for five days, began around April 23rd and was resolved on the evening of April 28th. The issue stemmed from Oracle Health engineers inadvertently deleting critical storage connected to a key database during routine maintenance at one of their data centers. Approximately 50 CHS facilities were affected, requiring them to revert to downtime procedures, including using paper records for patient information. CHS's Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Information Officer, Patrice Bordron, communicated to staff that no patient data was affected by the accidental deletion. This incident follows previous reports of malicious compromises of legacy Cerner and Oracle cloud systems that affected other healthcare clients.
