Orlando Health was found to have acted with reckless disregard in the case of James Sada, who died from a heart attack in 2020 after delays in care. The family filed suit, alleging that Orlando Health's internal policies prioritized network retention over patient outcomes, leading to critical delays. The jury did not find negligence under a traditional malpractice framework but concluded that the conduct rose to the level of reckless indifference. The Orange County jury awarded the Sada family $45 million in damages, $15 million each to his widow and two of his children under 25. The lawsuit highlighted multiple delays in care and communication errors, including transporting Sada via helicopter between Orlando Health facilities instead of a closer, more equipped hospital [3, 4]. The plaintiff's legal team argued that Sada should have been taken to a hospital equipped to handle his condition instead of being transferred between facilities within the Orlando Health network [4].

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital is undergoing a major 20,000-square-foot expansion that will feature two new cardiac catheterization laboratories and a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) [11]. A ceremonial "topping out" marked the placement of the final beam on the new two-story expansion, which is expected to open in January 2026 [11]. The expansion reflects a major investment in advanced cardiovascular and critical care services, providing patients with faster, more advanced treatments without needing to travel outside the community [11]. The ICU will feature modern, spacious rooms, while the cardiac catheterization labs will utilize cutting-edge technology to reduce radiation exposure [11].
