With over 25 years of hospital operations experience, Alan Levine has served as chief executive officer of hospitals and health systems ranging from a small rural hospital to one of the largest public systems in America. Prior to his role at Ballad Health, Alan was the president and chief executive officer of Mountain States Health Alliance. Alan has also served on Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal's cabinet and has served as deputy chief of staff and senior health policy advisor to Florida governor Jeb Bush. [4, 5]
Previously, Eric Deaton was Wellmont Health System's executive vice president and chief operating officer, with oversight of Ballad Health's systemwide operations, including the newly created Behavioral Services Division. [6]
Anthony Keck is the Executive Vice President for System Innovation and Chief Population Health Officer at Ballad Health. In this role, he is responsible for strategy, analytics, value-based services, marketing, communications, government affairs, the Ballad Health Innovation Center, the Ballad Health Foundation, and community health programs. Before joining Ballad Health, Keck served as the director of Health and Human Services for South Carolina during Governor Nikki R. Haley's first term. He also worked for three years in the administration of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, where he managed the public health and behavioral health response to hurricanes, the H1N1 pandemic, and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Prior to his government service, Keck worked for organizations including Johnson & Johnson, Ochsner Clinic New Orleans, and St. Thomas Health Services, a community clinic. He earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Michigan in 1993 and was working on his doctoral thesis in public health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine as of 2009. Keck was involved in establishing the Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum after Hurricane Katrina and has held board positions with the National Association of Medicaid Directors, the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Governance and Financing of Graduate Medical Education, the Executive Committee of the National Academy for State Health Policy, the Virginia Center for Health Innovation (as chair), the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, and the Kingsport Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as board chair for Ballad Ventures.
In this role, Clay Runnels has oversight of all clinical services, quality, service lines, Ballad Health Medical Associates, health research and graduate medical education. [6]
Marvin Eichorn has held senior leadership roles within Mountain States Health Alliance and Ballad Health since 1998, including chief operating officer and chief financial officer. He has oversight of corporate operations and services, and Ballad Health's value-based services administrative organization. [6]
Amit Vashist focuses on clinical quality, value-based initiatives to improve quality while reducing cost of care, performance improvement, oversight of the clinical delivery of care and is the liaison to the Ballad Health Clinical Council. [6]
Dr. Matthew Loos is the Chief Academic Officer at Ballad Health. In this role, he oversees academic programs, partnerships, and graduate medical education. Prior to this, he served as the Chief Medical Officer for Ballad Health's Washington County, Tennessee market starting in 2016, and continued in that capacity on an interim basis after becoming Chief Academic Officer in 2019. Dr. Loos is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His educational background includes an undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, a medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University.
Mark Patterson oversees operation of more than 800 physicians, advanced practice providers and urgent care services. Patterson has served as a general surgeon in Greeneville since 1995. In 2012, he joined Laughlin Medical Group, where he held both clinical and leadership roles, including chief medical officer. [6]
Dr. Mark Wilkinson is the Chief Medical Information Officer and Vice President of Medical Staff Services and Hospital Based Programs at Ballad Health. He is an emergency medicine physician board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Wilkinson earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's Medical School and completed his internship and residency at East Tennessee State University. With Ballad Health since 1995, he has held numerous roles in emergency departments and leadership, including chief medical officer for Ballad Health's Southeast and Northwest Markets. He also holds an MBA from Milligan College, is a Certified Physician Executive, and is recognized for his contributions to emergency medical services.
Andy Wampler is the General Counsel for Ballad Health. Prior to this role, he was a shareholder and president at Wilson Worley, PC, where he practiced for 20 years, focusing on healthcare, employment, business, and commercial litigation in Tennessee and Virginia. He is licensed in both states and has litigated in both state and federal courts. Wampler began working with local healthcare providers in 2001 and has also served as general counsel for organizations such as the Johnson City Industrial Development Board and Johnson City Housing Authority. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Presbyterian College, a Master of Arts in English literature, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee. He has been recognized with awards for his leadership and service and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. The Tennessee Supreme Court has appointed him as Assistant Examiner for the Board of Law Examiners and as Disciplinary Hearing Officer for the Board of Professional Responsibility. He has also published numerous articles and spoken on various legal topics.
Dr. Shari Rajoo is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Population Health Services at Ballad Health, where she has worked for 10 to 13 years. Her role encompasses Behavioral Health, Population Health, and the AnewCare Collaborative. Dr. Rajoo is a primary care physician. Before her current position, she served as Assistant Vice President and Medical Director of Population Health for Ballad Health Medical Associates and Medical Director of Quality Improvement for Ballad Health's Medical Group. She was also Medical Director for the health system's Patient Centered Medical Home initiative. Additionally, she is the Medical Director for the AnewCare Collaborative, Ballad Health's accountable care organization, and Medical Director for the Diabetes Team Member Program. She chairs the Integrated Health Solutions Network Credentialing Committee. She earned her Bachelor of Science in microbiology and Master of Science in molecular biology at the University of Southern Mississippi. She obtained her medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and completed her family medicine residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Rajoo is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine and holds memberships with the American Association for Physician Leadership and the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has over 20 years of experience in the medical field and is affiliated with Holston Valley Medical Center and Indian Path Community Hospital.
