Creekside Medical Clinic, an independent physician-owned group specializing in primary care in Rapid City, South Dakota, has agreed to join Sanford Health. This integration is expected to be finalized on September 1, 2025, at which point the four family medicine physicians and two advanced practice providers, along with all staff members from Creekside Medical Clinic, will become part of Sanford Health. This move is highlighted as a reinforcement of Sanford Health's mission to expand comprehensive healthcare services in the communities it serves, specifically in the Rapid City area. Sanford Health leadership, including Kyle Wiese, Sanford Rapid City president and CEO, expressed enthusiasm for welcoming the Creekside team and integrating independent physician groups that align with their vision for the future of healthcare. Creekside Medical Clinic has served the Rapid City area for over 25 years, offering a range of general services including outpatient care for all ages, preventive health evaluations, referrals for various screening tests, on-site laboratory services, vaccinations, and pre-employment and DOT physicals. Dr. Carson Phillips of Creekside Medical Clinic stated that the partnership will allow for the expansion of their patient-centered care model to better serve the growing Black Hills community. This follows other recent integrations in western South Dakota, such as Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center and Black Hills Surgical Hospital in November 2024. [2]

Sanford Health and the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) have been recognized with the UNIVANTS of Healthcare Excellence “Team of Achievement” Award. This award honors their collaborative efforts to significantly improve healthcare for individuals at risk of or living with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The recognition specifically highlights their successful partnership in enhancing CKD testing, diagnosis, and treatment among patients with diabetes across the Sanford Health system, which is noted as the largest rural health system in the United States. According to the announcement, within the first 10 months of implementing new system-wide protocols, Sanford Health observed substantial positive outcomes. The percentage of patients with diabetes receiving recommended CKD testing increased from 38% to 70%. The diagnosis rate of CKD in patients with laboratory-confirmed evidence rose from 20% to 73%. Furthermore, the utilization of SGLT2 inhibitors, a medication known to slow CKD progression, increased from under 2% to 9.6%. Dr. Christina Lankhorst of Sanford Health expressed honor in receiving the award and emphasized the importance of teamwork in making a difference in the lives of patients with CKD, highlighting the collaboration with the NKF as leading to breakthroughs in early diagnoses, improved quality of life, and increased access to care. The fifth annual Roger Maris All-Star Week commenced on June 16, 2025, in Fargo, North Dakota, and is set to run through June 20th at various locations in the Fargo-Moorhead area. This week-long event serves as a fundraiser to support the ongoing investment and expansion of the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, with a focus on developing it as a national hub for cancer research, treatment, education, and training. The Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center is home to North Dakota's sole Bone Marrow Transplant Program, which was established in October 2021. The schedule for the week includes a variety of events such as free youth sports clinics held daily from June 16-20, a Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks baseball game on June 17 which Sanford Health is sponsoring as "Cancer Awareness Night", the Roger Maris Gala on June 18, the Edith 9-Hole Golf Scramble and the Roger Maris Celebrity Golf Tournament on June 19, the Roger Maris All-Star Week Drive on June 19, and the Roger Maris Academy on June 20. Several celebrity athletes, including Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell and former Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway, are expected to participate in events throughout the week. Funds raised during the Roger Maris All-Star Week contribute to supporting special services, patient amenities, direct patient assistance, and research at the cancer center. [7]

The new Sanford Orthopedic Hospital in Sioux Falls, a nine-story, 161,000-square-foot building on the Sanford USD Medical Center campus, is scheduled to see its first patients in early 2026. The facility, which is attached to Sanford Children's Hospital and connected via the existing surgical tower, will also feature a boutique hotel inside, set to open concurrently. Rising 137 feet, it is the tallest structure on the campus and is designed to accommodate growth in orthopedic services while also offering enhancements to the broader campus. Andy Munce, the recently appointed president and CEO of Sanford Health's Sioux Falls region, highlighted that the primary goal is to continue providing excellent care to the community, aligning with Sanford's mission to care, comfort, and cure. The Sioux Falls area has experienced significant growth in orthopedics, and Sanford Health aims to be a key part of that expansion. The hospital will initially house 30 orthopedic physicians and 34 advanced practice providers. The project also involves a 44,000-square-foot renovation of the existing surgical tower, including modernizing the front entry, with completion targeted for late 2026. The boutique hotel with 56 guest rooms will be located on the sixth and seventh floors, offering convenience for patients and their families, particularly those with early procedures or those who would benefit from an overnight stay before traveling home. Sanford Health Fargo is preparing to break ground on the Peltier Lodge, a new facility designed to provide temporary and long-term lodging for patients receiving care at the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at 3 p.m. at the site of the former Scandia Hotel located at 717 4th St. N., Fargo. The Peltier Lodge is being entirely funded through philanthropic efforts, significantly boosted by a major lead gift from philanthropist Norma Peltier. This 28,400-square-foot building will offer dedicated spaces aimed at supporting patients and their families throughout their treatment and outpatient care journey. Susan Jarvis, Sanford Fargo chief operating officer, emphasized the significant need the Peltier Lodge will address in the community, particularly for patients traveling from a distance for cancer treatment, which can be physically, emotionally, and financially taxing. The facility aims to alleviate these burdens by providing a comfortable, home-like environment crucial for healing. The addition of the Peltier Lodge will also facilitate the expansion of the Roger Maris Cancer Center's blood and bone marrow transplant program and potentially allow for the addition of more services. Currently, an average of 54 patients daily at the Roger Maris Cancer Center require temporary lodging, a number anticipated to double as the transplant program grows. Nearly half of the over 600 daily patients at the center travel more than 60 miles for care, highlighting the critical need for local lodging. [5]
