As chief executive officer, Rich Liekweg oversees the $10 billion health system and one of the region's largest employers, with 44,000 employees, 24 hospitals, and hundreds of clinics, service organizations and physician offices in Missouri, southern Illinois and eastern Kansas. BJC Health System serves its East Region as BJC HealthCare, and its West Region as Saint Luke's. In 2018, Rich was named BJC HealthCare's CEO, and in 2024 he became CEO of BJC Health System. Prior to joining BJC, Rich served as chief executive officer and associate vice chancellor of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center from 2003-2009. Before that, he spent nearly two decades at Duke University Health System in North Carolina. Rich holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Virginia and master's degrees in health services administration and business administration, both from the University of Michigan. A prominent health care industry executive with decades of experience leading large, multifaceted academic health care organizations, Rich joined BJC HealthCare in 2009 as president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital and group president of BJC HealthCare. In 2015, he was promoted first to executive vice president and then to president of BJC HealthCare.
Nick Barto serves as the President of BJC Health System and BJC East Region at BJC HealthCare. He assumed the role of president for both the parent system and the eastern division, BJC HealthCare, coinciding with the merger of BJC Health System and Saint Luke's Health System in January 2024. Prior to this, Barto was the executive vice president and chief financial officer for BJC HealthCare, a position he took on when he joined the organization in 2018. In his CFO role, he was responsible for the financial success of BJC HealthCare, overseeing areas such as corporate and operational finance, data and analytics, managed care/value-based contracting, revenue cycle, supply chain, treasury, and investments. He played a significant part in leading the system through the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and was involved in establishing BJC's Business Intelligence and Data Solutions group and launching the data and research firm CuriMeta in partnership with Washington University. Before joining BJC, Barto held senior financial leadership positions at Catholic Health Initiatives (now CommonSpirit Health), Novant Health, McColl Partners, Lehman Brothers, and The Wilkerson Group. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Columbia Business School and a bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton University.
Jerry Fox is the Executive Vice President, Chief Information and Digital Officer at BJC HealthCare. He joined BJC HealthCare in 2017. In this role, he is responsible for information technology, information security operations, biomedical engineering technology, and digital initiatives across the BJC Health System. This includes overseeing technology for hospitals, clinics, service organizations, and programs, as well as BJC Virtual Care. Before his time at BJC HealthCare, Fox served as the global chief information officer at Rockwell Automation. Prior to that, he was the chief technology officer and director of global information technology operations at Dana Corporation. Christopher N. Miller, MD, MS, is the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at BJC Health System, serving as the senior clinical leader across the integrated academic health system. He joined BJC HealthCare in 2023. In this role, he partners with Washington University School of Medicine colleagues to lead the redesign of BJC's care delivery model, aiming to provide high-value care for patients and consumers. He is also responsible for the continued integration of clinical care to ensure equitable and efficient access to comprehensive medical services. Before joining BJC, Dr. Miller held several leadership positions at Cleveland's University Hospitals, including president of the Clinical Network and chief clinical officer. He also served as president of University Hospitals Physician Services and was the department chair and physician-in-chief for emergency medicine. He held the Carol and Arthur F. Anton Endowed Chair for physician leadership. Dr. Miller earned his medical and Master of Science degrees from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He is an emergency medicine specialist with over 20 years of experience and is affiliated with Barnes Jewish Hospital. Additionally, as an active-duty United States Navy officer, he supported United States Marine Corps combat operations in Iraq and other overseas missions.
Julie Quirin is the President of BJC Health System's West Region, which includes Saint Luke's Health System and serves the Kansas City area, northwestern Missouri, and eastern Kansas. She oversees the day-to-day operations for the West Region, including hospitals, clinics, post-acute care, the physician enterprise, nursing administration, government affairs, and philanthropy. Quirin has over 25 years of leadership experience with Saint Luke's Health System prior to the merger with BJC HealthCare. Her previous roles at Saint Luke's included senior vice president and chief operating officer, senior vice president of hospital operations, CEO of Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, senior vice president of continuum of care services, and president and CEO of Saint Luke's South Hospital. She was named President of Saint Luke's Health System in November 2023, shortly before the merger with BJC HealthCare was completed in January 2024. Julie Quirin holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and corporate communication from Buena Vista University and a master's degree in organizational communication from the University of Kansas. She is a past chair and board member of the Missouri Hospital Association and a past chair of the United Way of Greater Kansas City. She has also served on the American Hospital Association's Regional Policy Board. Quirin has been a diplomate with the American College of Healthcare Executives since 2005.
Chuck Robb is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at BJC Health System, which was formed by the merger of BJC HealthCare and Saint Luke's Health System in January 2024. In this role, he is responsible for all finance-related functions across both the Eastern (BJC HealthCare) and Western (Saint Luke's Health System) regions, including finance, supply chain, treasury, revenue cycle, and managed care. Prior to the merger, Robb served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Saint Luke's Health System for over 30 years, having joined in 1991. His roles at Saint Luke's included CFO of Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City and Saint Luke's Health System CFO. Before his tenure at Saint Luke's, Robb worked for Ernst & Young. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is a certified public accountant. Robb is involved in numerous professional organizations and has held board positions with groups such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Missouri Society of CPAs, and the Health Financial Management Association. He has also chaired boards for organizations including the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Trust, the University of Missouri-Kansas City Accounting Advisory Board, John Knox Village, and Vizient Mid-America. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the Kansas City Business Journal's CFOs of the Year.
Rebecca Sesler is the Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at BJC HealthCare. In this role, she is responsible for corporate communications, brand management, digital marketing, internal communications, customer experience, and corporate sponsorships for the BJC Health System, overseeing brand architecture across its Eastern and Western Regions. She assumed this position following the merger of BJC HealthCare and Saint Luke's Health System, where she previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for 12 years. During her time at Saint Luke's, she developed an award-winning in-house agency. Prior to joining Saint Luke's, Sesler was an Executive Vice President at a healthcare marketing and advertising firm for ten years, consulting with hospitals and health systems nationwide. She holds a Bachelor's of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Sally Terrace is the Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and General Counsel at BJC HealthCare. She joined BJC HealthCare in 1999 and previously served as senior vice president and general counsel. Before becoming deputy general counsel in 2016, she was vice president of compliance starting in 2011. Her responsibilities include overseeing legal services, risk management, insurance, claims and litigation, corporate compliance, privacy, and internal audit for BJC Health System. Prior to joining BJC HealthCare, she was deputy general counsel for Washington University, in-house counsel for Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, and general counsel of the American College of Surgeons. Jackie Tischler is the Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer at BJC HealthCare. She joined BJC in 2020. In her role, she provides strategic and operational leadership for human resources initiatives, focusing on areas such as strategy, planning, recruitment, learning, compensation, and benefits. She is also the liaison to the Compensation Committee of the BJC Board of Directors. Before her time at BJC HealthCare, Tischler served as Senior Vice President, Human Resource Operations at Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH), where she was responsible for various HR functions including compensation, talent acquisition, benefits, and HR technology. Prior to BSWH, she was the Vice President of Human Resources at University of Colorado Health for two years. Her background also includes senior HR and transformation leadership positions at Methodist Health System in Dallas. She began her career in audit services at Ernst and Young LLP and is a former certified public accountant. Tischler holds a master's degree in health care administration from Trinity University and a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on accounting from Oklahoma State University.
