Covenant Health Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center is the first healthcare facility in Tennessee to utilize the Galvanize Aliya® Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) System for endoscopic procedures related to lung conditions. This new technology employs pulsed electric fields for non-thermal ablation, a method that precisely targets and treats lesions and cells without using heat, thereby preserving surrounding healthy tissue and stimulating the body's immune response. The PEF system is approved by the FDA and represents a significant advancement in endoscopic care. Dr. Varun Shah, medical director of Fort Sanders Regional's endobronchial therapies and lung nodule program, is the first physician in Tennessee to use the Aliya INUMI Flex endoscopic needle, a tool designed to enhance precision in robotic bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) procedures. This technology allows for less invasive procedures, potentially leading to smaller incisions, reduced pain, and faster recovery times for patients.

Covenant Health is facing a class-action lawsuit following a cybersecurity breach that occurred on May 25, 2025. The lawsuit was filed in Penobscot County, Maine, by Michael McClain, who alleges that Covenant Health failed to adequately protect patients' private information. The breach forced multiple hospitals in Maine, including St. Mary's Health System in Lewiston and St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor, which are operated by Covenant Health, to take their systems offline. The complaint claims that the healthcare organizations used ineffective and low-cost security systems. As a result, patients are allegedly at imminent and ongoing risk of fraud and identity theft. The lawsuit seeks restitution, other damages, and a court order mandating additional cybersecurity controls. Covenant Health has not confirmed if patient data was compromised and has declined to comment on the pending litigation. Central Maine Healthcare also reported a cyber incident around the same time, leading MaineHealth to sever digital ties with both systems as a precaution, although it remains unclear if the incidents are connected. Covenant Health has hired outside cybersecurity experts to investigate and restore system access.

Hundreds of children received free dental screenings at Covenant Health Park as part of Renaissance Dental Day. This event was a collaboration between Renaissance Insurance, the Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley, and Lincoln Memorial University, aimed at promoting oral health and community engagement. Organizers expressed that the initiative was also intended to demonstrate that dental visits can be a positive experience. In addition to the screenings, participating children were given a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and tickets to a Knoxville Smokies baseball game. Renaissance Insurance is reportedly conducting similar mobile dental events across the state to bring care directly to communities. [10]
