Patrick J. Cawley

CEO, MUSC Health Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, University

Dr. Patrick J. Cawley is the Chief Executive Officer of MUSC Health and Executive Vice President for Health Affairs of the Medical University of South Carolina, overseeing all clinical matters. Under his leadership, MUSC Health has expanded its clinical enterprise, including a new Children's Hospital and a regional health network, and has become a national leader in telehealth. MUSC has also been recognized as South Carolina's #1 hospital/health system. Prior to his current role, he was the chief medical officer of MUSC Medical Center, leading quality and patient safety improvements. Dr. Cawley earned a BS from the University of Scranton, an MD from Georgetown University, and completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University. He also holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He is board certified in Internal Medicine with focused recognition in Hospital Medicine and was a co-founder of the first hospital medicine program at Duke. Thomas Crawford

Chief Operating Officer

Thomas Crawford, PhD, MBA, FACHE, is the System Chief Operating Officer at MUSC Health, the clinical delivery arm of the Medical University of South Carolina. Michael A. de Arellano

Chief Organizational Excellence Officer

Michael A. de Arellano, Ph.D., is the Chief Organizational Excellence Officer at MUSC Health and also serves as a professor and licensed clinical psychologist at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He also holds the position of Chief Equity Officer at MUSC/MUSC Health. Dr. de Arellano joined MUSC in 1995 and became a faculty member in 1998. He directs the Mental Health Disparities Program, focusing on research, clinical work, and educational programs to improve culturally competent and linguistically appropriate care. His work emphasizes increasing access to evidence-based mental health services for trauma-exposed youth and families from underserved backgrounds, utilizing both in-person and virtual programs. He has also been involved in projects internationally, including supporting children affected by Hurricane Maria and disseminating trauma treatments in Central America. In addition to his roles at MUSC, Dr. de Arellano provides training and technical assistance to communities impacted by mass violence through his role at the National Mass Violence Center. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Miami and his master's and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He completed his internship and postdoctoral fellowship in traumatic stress at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at MUSC. He previously served as Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Traumatic Stress and as President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He also directed the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center and co-directed the Charleston Consortium Clinical Psychology Internship Program.

Heather Farley

Gene Hong

Chief Physician Executive

Dr. Eugene S. Hong serves as the Chief Physician Executive for MUSC Physicians and MUSC Health. In this capacity, he oversees the practice plan and holds a senior leadership position within the health system. Prior to joining MUSC in March, Dr. Hong was an endowed chair and professor in the Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine at Drexel University in Philadelphia. While at Drexel, he held several leadership roles, including chief of the division of primary care sports medicine, chair of the Drexel University Physician Board, and associate dean for primary care and community health. As associate dean, he was involved in the creation of an accountable care organization (ACO) initiative. Dr. Hong is a recognized authority in sports medicine, with expertise in concussions, cardiac issues in athletes, overuse injuries, and sports injury prevention. He has decades of experience as a team physician and has worked with high school, college, professional, and elite athletes. He has also served as a team physician for several universities and colleges, including being the chief medical officer for Clemson University Athletics. Beyond his roles at MUSC and in collegiate sports, Dr. Hong has a significant history of involvement with lacrosse. He has volunteered with USA Lacrosse for 15 years, serving as the USA national team physician for both the women's (2011) and men's (2016) teams that won world championships. He is currently the chief medical officer for World Lacrosse, a volunteer position where he advises on health, wellness, and safety policies. He also previously chaired the USA Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee. Dr. Hong has contributed to the medical literature, including publishing one of the first medical textbooks on mental health in athletes. He has also served on the NCAA Task Force on Mental Health in Athletes. His work has been recognized with numerous academic and professional awards. Todd Leach

Chief Information Officer

Todd Leach is the Enterprise Chief Information Officer for Information Solutions at MUSC Health. He has over 30 years of experience in information technology and related positions. Prior to joining MUSC, he served as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where he also held the position of Associate Vice President of Information Services. System Executive Director, Office of Strategic Partnerships

Cory Robinson

Dr. Cory Robinson is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health System and an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Health Professions. Danielle Bowen Scheurer

Chief Quality Officer

Danielle Bowen Scheurer is an adult hospitalist physician and the Chief Quality Officer at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health System. She completed undergraduate studies at Emory University and the University of Tennessee, earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, and completed her combined medicine-pediatrics training at Duke University. She also holds a Master's degree in Clinical Research from MUSC. Dawn Hartsell

Chief of Staff, Office of the President

Dawn Hartsell is the Chief of Staff for the MUSC President's Office, appointed to the role on February 1, 2022. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Health Care Management from Western Governors University.
