Dennis Butts, MBA, is the Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy & Network Development Officer at Henry Ford Health, having started in August 2024. He is a nationally recognized expert in healthcare network design, innovative care delivery, and payment models with over two decades of experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Henry Ford Health, Butts was a Partner and Health Strategy & Innovation Leader at Guidehouse from December 2019 to August 2024. He also served as a Managing Director at Navigant from July 2013 to October 2019, where he led value transformation initiatives and clinical integration. His career began at Pfizer in marketing and sales within the pharmaceutical industry. Butts holds an MBA in Strategic Management and a Certificate in Health System Management from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, and a BS in International Business from The University of Akron. He was an Integration Leader for Henry Ford Health's proposed joint venture with Ascension Michigan and is a co-founder of the Pastor Dennis K. Butts Sr. and Jewrusha V. Butts Spirit of Excellence Scholarship Fund. His thought leadership has been featured in publications including Becker's Hospital Review and Fierce Healthcare.
Heather Geisler is the Executive Vice President and Chief Brand & Experience Officer at Henry Ford Health, a role she assumed in 2020. In this position, she is responsible for shaping and enhancing the organization's brand and consumer experience. Before joining Henry Ford Health, Geisler served as the Senior Vice President of Global Brands for Hyatt Hotels Corporation, where she oversaw global marketing, advertising, positioning, and growth for their brands. Her professional background also includes experience as the Vice President of Brand Marketing at MSNBC, where she developed brand positioning and growth strategy. Geisler's career began in politics, working in the press office of a U.S. Senator. She also spent over 15 years at advertising agencies in New York and Washington, D.C., working on branding and marketing campaigns for corporate and nonprofit clients, including initiatives like Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign. She is a graduate of The University of Iowa and completed the Punch Sulzberger Fellowship Program at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
Patrick Kelly serves as the Vice President, Foundations and Chief Mission Integration Officer at Henry Ford Health. He possesses extensive experience in both healthcare operations and philanthropy. Before assuming his current role at Henry Ford Health, Kelly held positions as Market Leader for Ascension Michigan Foundation and Chief Mission Integration Officer for Ascension Michigan. His prior experience also includes leadership roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Children's Hospital of Michigan, and the Van Andel Institute. Kelly is an alumnus of Northwood University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus on Management and Marketing. In his capacity at Henry Ford Health, he is responsible for aligning and promoting the organization's mission, vision, and values, and he also oversees philanthropic activities.
Steven N. Kalkanis, MD, is the Executive Vice President and CEO of Henry Ford Hospital and CEO of the Henry Ford Medical Group at Henry Ford Health. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon who completed his residency training at the Harvard - Massachusetts General Hospital program, joining Henry Ford in 2004. Dr. Kalkanis graduated with highest honors from Harvard University and earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. His previous roles at Henry Ford include serving as professor and chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, co-director of the Neuroscience Institute, and the founding Medical Director of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute. An internationally recognized expert in brain tumors, he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He was appointed CEO of the Henry Ford Medical Group in January 2020 and became CEO of Henry Ford Hospital in 2023.

Mary Jane “MJ” Vogt is the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Henry Ford Health, a role she was appointed to in 2019. She has been with Henry Ford Health since 1997, holding various leadership positions including Director of Annual Giving, Senior Director of Regional Philanthropy, and Vice President of Major Gifts and Regional Philanthropy. In her current role, Vogt is responsible for leading the philanthropic and fundraising efforts for the health system, which includes strategic planning, solicitation strategy, special events, and community sponsorship. She oversees a team focused on ensuring a positive donor experience. Under her leadership, the development office has achieved significant fundraising results, including record-breaking philanthropic support in recent years and securing over $150 million in gift commitments in the three years prior to April 2019. She is also credited with modernizing the employee and physician giving campaign and co-leading a major fundraising campaign called Envision. Vogt is an active member of the community, serving on the boards of organizations such as Gleaners Community Food Bank, Sparky Anderson's CATCH Charity for Children, City Year Detroit, and Connect 313. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts and a master's degree from Michigan State University.
Eric Wallis, DNP, MSA, RN, NE-BC, FACHE, is the Senior Vice President and System Chief Nursing Officer at Henry Ford Health, a role he assumed in December 2021. With over two decades of experience in nursing and healthcare leadership, Wallis began his career as a bedside nurse, primarily in the cardiac ICU. His career progression includes leadership roles in clinical specialties and hospital operations at various academic medical centers and community hospitals. Before becoming System Chief Nursing Officer, he was the President of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, joining Henry Ford Health in 2019. His prior experience includes leadership positions at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center and OhioHealth, as well as roles at the Ohio State University Medical Center. Academically, Wallis holds an undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University, a Master of Science Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Christian University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a certified Nurse Executive. Wallis is recognized for his dedication to fostering a positive culture, enhancing healthcare delivery, and actively working to address nursing workforce challenges. He also contributes to the field through his involvement with organizations like the Michigan Hospital Association and Oakland University, and as adjunct dean of nursing practice at Michigan State University.
Prior to this, he served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Geisinger. Previously, he served as the General Counsel of George Washington University.
Carol Schmidt is the Senior Integration Advisor at Henry Ford Health, reporting to the President & CEO. In this role, she plays a key part in the integration of Henry Ford Health and Ascension Michigan, providing leadership and strategic guidance during the transition. Prior to this role, Carol Schmidt had a distinguished career at Ascension for over 25 years, holding executive positions including Senior Vice President, Ascension, and CEO of Ascension Michigan, where she was responsible for the operations of 16 hospitals and numerous outpatient sites. Her career began as a registered nurse, and she is recognized for her commitment to improving healthcare performance and fostering a patient-centered culture. Carol Schmidt holds an associate degree in Nursing from Maryville University, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management, and a Master of Health Administration from Webster University. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Dr. Usamah (Sam) Mossallam is the Vice President and Medical Director for International Initiatives at Henry Ford Health. He graduated from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn in 1994 and completed a combined internal medicine/emergency medicine residency at the Medical Center of Delaware (Christiana Care Health System), where he was chief resident. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and internal medicine and has over 30 years of experience in the medical field. Dr. Mossallam joined Henry Ford Hospital in 1999, taking on leadership roles in residency programs. He left briefly in 2006 to serve as Chairman of Emergency Medicine and Associate Chief Medical Officer at the International Medical Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before returning to Henry Ford Health System in late 2007. Since his return, he has held positions including service chief/medical director and division head of the Fairlane Emergency Department and Chief Medical Officer – Associate at Henry Ford Hospital, where he developed utilization management programs. In January 2015, he was promoted to his current role, leading Henry Ford Health's international activities, including licensed hospitals in Saudi Arabia and India, a visiting professor program in Dubai, and the international patient division. He also holds an MBA from Oakland University.
