Chris Van Gorder

President and Chief Executive Officer

As president and CEO of Scripps Health, Chris Van Gorder leads one of the nation’s top health care systems. His now 25-plus years at Scripps include a landmark financial and cultural turnaround, a permanent reaffiliation with Scripps Clinic, integration of hospital and ambulatory care, a successful response to COVID-19 and an evolution in health care technology and access. Started at Scripps in 1999 as chief operations officer.

Ghazala Sharieff, MD, MBA

Chief Medical Officer for acute care, clinical excellence and experience

Served in this role on an interim basis previously. Previously was Scripps' chief experience officer and has held other leadership roles with Scripps, Rady Children's Hospital San Diego and national medical practice group CEP-America (now Vituity).

Anil Keswani, MD

Chief Medical Officer for ambulatory and accountable care

This executive oversight includes systemwide clinical service lines and the Scripps Accountable Care Organization. Most recently served in this role on an interim basis. Previously led population health efforts at Scripps Health and earlier served as vice president of medical management at Chicago-based Advocate Healthcare.

Shane Thielman

Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Shane Thielman is the Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Scripps Health. He is responsible for the vision and implementation of Scripps' information and digital technology, leading the development, implementation, integration, and execution of technology initiatives to enable system strategy and deliver effective clinical and business operations. Thielman joined Scripps Health in 2006 and has held progressive leadership positions in strategic planning, project management, medical management, and information services. His experience includes clinical process redesign, program management, and performance improvement. In 2016, he led the continued implementation of Scripps' system-wide inpatient and ambulatory electronic health record and revenue cycle platforms, and provided leadership for application services, analytics, and informatics. He previously served as interim CIO and also worked as an administrative resident at City of Hope. Shane Thielman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Willamette University and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Southern California. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is certified as a Healthcare Chief Information Officer and Digital Health Executive by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. He has also led the introduction of several AI initiatives at Scripps Health.

Eric Cole

Corporate Senior Vice President for human resources

Eric Cole is the Corporate Senior Vice President for human resources at Scripps Health. Before taking on this role, he held various executive leadership positions in human resources and human capital management within Scripps Health. Prior to his time at Scripps, he served as vice president of human resources and administrator of physician services for Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also listed as a member of the Southern California CHRO Governing Body.

Barbara Price

Corporate Senior Vice President for strategy and planning

Barbara Price is the Corporate Senior Vice President for strategy and planning at Scripps Health. She joined Scripps Health in 2001. In her role, she is responsible for leadership and oversight of strategic planning and annual performance objectives, including systems to align and execute key strategic priorities. Previously, Price held the position of corporate senior vice president and chief executive of the Scripps Accountable Care Organization. Before that, she led business and care line development at Scripps, providing expertise for the growth of clinical care lines, post-acute care, and the implementation of a system-wide process improvement program. Before joining Scripps, Price held leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California, and Sharp Healthcare in San Diego. She also has experience working with medical group and health system operations in competitive healthcare environments. Her prior experience includes leadership roles at KPMG Peat Marwick, Sequoia Hospital, and Stanford University Medical Center, and she worked as a consultant for various healthcare organizations. Price holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from the Walter Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. She has been recognized with a Tribute to Women and Industry Award by the YWCA and serves on the board of the Institute for Healthcare Advancement, focusing on health literacy.
