Dartmouth Health is being asked to pay more than $2 million in legal fees and interest after a Windsor County fertility doctor successfully sued over her disability discrimination firing in 2017 [5]. A federal court jury in Burlington awarded $1 million in economic damages to Dr. Misty Blanchette Porter of Norwich on April 10 for lost income and expenses [5]. The jury also said Porter was entitled to an additional $125,000 in non-economic damages for the loss of enjoyment in life, mental anguish or pain and suffering [5]. Now Porter's lawyers have filed to recover their lawsuit-related costs in the contentious legal battle which has ricocheted through Federal District Court in Vermont and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York City over the past eight years [5]. The request is for $1,742,650 in legal fees to be split between the law firms of Vitt & Nunan in Norwich and Langrock Sperry & Wool in Burlington, who represent the doctor [5].

Cheshire Medical Center, a member of Dartmouth Health, is releasing its latest Community Benefits Report, a snapshot of the hospital's work to improve local health and wellness [27]. Dartmouth Health Children's is launching the next season of its 'Heads Up' series, focusing on children's mental health [35]. This mental health awareness series will feature community conversations and a video series on topics identified in a recent survey of New Hampshire parents and caregivers [35]. Dartmouth Health commissioned a survey of caregivers of children ages infant to 18 in New Hampshire and Vermont to gather insights on the most important mental health topics in raising their children [35]. Based on the survey results, Dartmouth Health produced a series of short videos to serve as a resource for parents and caregivers [35]. Dartmouth Health Children's is also producing a toolkit to be shared with caregivers, schools, and mental health support organizations, with links to online resources [35].

Dartmouth Health has joined the New Hampshire Hospital Association (NHHA) and Concord Hospital and Concord Hospital-Laconia in a lawsuit against the state of New Hampshire, challenging the constitutionality of the Medicaid Enhancement Tax (MET) to protect access to important healthcare services for all patients [6, 16]. This decision was made after months of attempted negotiations with the state regarding the potential impact of funding loss on the health system's ability to deliver patient care [6]. Under the current tax agreement, Dartmouth Health provides 30% of the overall MET payment but would carry approximately 75% of the burden of lost revenue from the state, largely due to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's (DHMC) geographic location as a border hospital with Vermont [6]. Vermont residents comprise 40% of the patient service revenue on which the MET payment for DHMC is calculated, yet the state of New Hampshire does not provide supplemental payments on that portion of the MET [6, 16].
