Endeavor Health, an nine-hospital system headquartered in Illinois, is undertaking its largest IT project to date: consolidating three separate instances of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system into a single one. This initiative aims to streamline the EHR experience for both patients and staff. According to Dr. Shilpan Patel, Endeavor Health's Chief Medical Informatics Officer, having three different Epic versions complicates process improvement and creating a consistent experience. The health system was formed in late 2023 through the merger of NorthShore University HealthSystem and Edward-Elmhurst Health, which resulted in the multiple Epic instances. This situation led to patients potentially having up to three MyChart portals and staff needing to access different systems based on their location. Endeavor Health dedicated 2024 to planning and establishing governance for the consolidation, launching the project in early 2025 with a target go-live date in the fall of 2026. The project is being treated with the same level of resource allocation as a new EHR installation, involving numerous work groups meeting weekly. The health system is utilizing Epic's project management tool and will base the consolidated system on Epic's foundational EHR. Dr. Patel emphasized that this project is clinically and operationally driven, enabled by technology, requiring significant collaboration to make informed decisions about the system's configuration and impact. He described it as potentially the largest IT project for the health system, with a significant impact on reducing burnout rates among frontline staff by designing a system that facilitates doing the right thing for patients efficiently. A single Epic instance will also simplify the adoption of new solutions, including AI technologies being developed by Epic. [2, 17]

Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights hosted their 'Around the World Cancer Survivor Celebration' on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The event brought together approximately 150 cancer survivors and 50 volunteers, including patients, caregivers, and medical professionals, to celebrate survivorship. Kim Jensen, the hospital's oncology social worker and event coordinator, emphasized that individuals are survivors from the moment of diagnosis and highlighted the event as an opportunity for attendees to have an enjoyable time. The celebration included various festivities such as games, refreshments, and a costume contest where participants dressed as their favorite country. A key element of the event was a raffle featuring 17 baskets with globally themed items, with all proceeds dedicated to benefiting the hospital's Cancer Patient Assistance Fund. Hospital President Dave Rahija spoke at the event, highlighting the available resources in cancer care at the facility, including a new linear accelerator in the radiation oncology department. Other speakers included Kathy Vehlow, a retired oncology nurse and cancer survivor, and Gail Schauer, a retired nurse who volunteers by fitting wigs for cancer patients. [18]

Endeavor Health is eliminating a temporary $5 per hour pay differential for nurses in intensive care units and emergency departments that was put in place at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This change was confirmed by Endeavor Health during National Nurses Week. The health system stated that the differential was always intended to be temporary and that the decision was made as the pandemic is behind them and they are focusing on aligning compensation as part of a broader health system strategy to invest in and support nurses long-term. To help with the transition, eligible nurses will receive 50 percent of the differential over the next twelve months, starting in June. Nurse leaders met with the impacted teams to ensure transparent communication about this decision. [12]

Endeavor Health announced it is accepting applications for its 2026 Community Investment Fund (CIF) Impact Awards and Capacity Builder Awards. The Impact Awards are designed to support collaborative, five-year initiatives with approximately $1 million per year to drive measurable, long-term change and address complex health challenges through cross-sector partnerships, focusing on vulnerable community members. Letters of Intent for Impact Awards are accepted from April 28 to May 30, 2025. The Capacity Builder Awards offer $100,000 to $500,000 per year for up to two years for distinct projects aimed at building the skills, resources, and infrastructure of community-based organizations; applications for these awards are open from July 28 to August 22, 2025. Since its inception in 2022, the CIF has invested over $30 million in community organizations, supporting job creation and benefiting a significant number of people across Chicagoland. Past initiatives supported by the CIF include providing mental health services in schools and funding a mobile clinic for health screenings and vaccinations. [19]

By creating a fully cloud-based platform, Endeavor Health and Google Cloud seek to enable better collaboration among physicians through easy sharing of digital files for second opinions and empower patients with greater access to their care team. This collaboration is seen as a significant step in advancing diagnostics and improving patient care.
