The Auxiliary of Anderson Hospital in Maryville and the Anderson Hospital Medical Staff are jointly offering $1,000 scholarships aimed at students pursuing studies in healthcare-related fields. To be eligible, students must be legal residents of the State of Illinois and must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution; attendance at an Illinois institution is not a requirement. The selection of scholarship winners is planned for July 2025. Application packets, which cover both the Auxiliary and Medical Staff scholarship opportunities, had a submission deadline of Monday, June 2, 2025. These packets were made accessible through the financial aid or counseling departments of local academic institutions, as well as physically at the Anderson Hospital Auxiliary Office, Gift Shop, and the reception desk of the Physician's Office Building. Anderson Hospital Surgical Services has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its first surgical procedure utilizing the advanced 7D FLASH™ Navigation System. This cutting-edge technology is designed to enhance surgical precision and elevate the standard of patient care. The inaugural procedure using this system was performed by Dr. Brendan Fong, a neurosurgeon affiliated with Neurosurgery of St. Louis and a member of the Anderson Medical Group. Dr. Fong and his colleagues see patients at their Maryville office, which is conveniently located on the Anderson Hospital campus.

Anderson Hospital, an entity of Anderson Healthcare, has significantly upgraded its Surgical Services department with new technology aimed at enhancing precision, safety, and patient outcomes. These upgrades include the addition of the new Da Vinci 5 Robot and the latest 7D FLASH™ Navigation System. The 7D FLASH Navigation System is highlighted as a major advancement, utilizing machine-vision cameras and sophisticated algorithms similar to those in self-driving cars for navigation during spine surgery. This system uses only visible light to quickly analyze the spine's surface and provides real-time navigation by referencing a preoperative CT scan, acting like a surgical GPS. A key benefit mentioned is the elimination of intraoperative radiation exposure for both patients and staff, unlike traditional fluoroscopy. The system also boasts the fastest image reconstruction in the field, contributing to highly accurate and efficient procedures. Anderson Hospital in Maryville has been recognized as one of the World's Best Hospitals for 2025 by Newsweek, marking the fourth consecutive year the hospital has received this honor. This prestigious recognition places Anderson Hospital among the top 4% of hospitals in the United States, ranking at #250 out of 410 U.S. hospitals named to the list. Of the 230 hospitals in Illinois, only 21 made the list, including Anderson Hospital. According to Lisa Spencer, President of Anderson Hospital, this recognition is a testament to the exceptional people and their commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care. The evaluation process for this award includes hospital quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores, feedback from healthcare professionals, and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). In addition to this international recognition, Anderson Hospital also received the Patient Experience Award and an “above average” rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for infection prevention, further reflecting the strength of the organization and the trust placed in them by their patients. Molli Gieseking, an RN in the Pavilion for Women at Anderson Hospital, was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs designed to recognize the exceptional efforts nurses make daily. Gieseking was nominated by a patient's family member for her heroic actions during an emergency C-section on February 26, 2025. According to the nomination, the patient, who had a high-risk pregnancy, experienced a complete umbilical cord prolapse upon arrival at the hospital. The nominating individual highlighted how Gieseking immediately took action, jumping onto the bed with the patient and remaining there while she was rushed to the operating room for an emergency C-section. The swift response of Gieseking and the entire OB team, including the on-call physician, Dr. Dalla Riva, was credited with the safe delivery of the baby. This recognition through The DAISY Award underscores the critical role nurses play in patient care and their ability to perform under pressure in life-saving situations.
