On June 1, 2025, three children were struck by lightning at Montones beach in Isabela and were urgently transported to Hospital Buen Samaritano in Aguadilla. The incident occurred around 2:38 p.m. during a heavy downpour. The children, aged 7, 10, and 12, received an electric discharge when the lightning struck near them on the sand. Two of the children are reported to be in stable condition, while the 12-year-old remains in delicate condition. A parent nearby heard a child screaming after the lightning strike. The National Weather Service in San Juan had issued a relevant alert.

Hospital Buen Samaritano in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico is seeking qualified Architectural/Engineering consultants. Following the news that Hospital El Buen Samaritano in Aguadilla suspended 15 employees without pay due to a lack of cash flow, Senator Keren Riquelme called for a meeting with the Secretary of the Department of Health, leaders of the Hospital Association, the College of Hospital Administrators, and the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico. The purpose of this summit meeting was to evaluate alternatives to prevent the potential closure of the hospital facility. The hospital's administration attributed the suspensions and financial difficulties partly to the delayed payments from medical insurance companies. Senator Riquelme emphasized the importance of the hospital to the large population in the western area, particularly the growing elderly demographic, stating that its closure is not an option and that efforts would be made to understand the situation and provide assistance from the Senate. This issue of delayed payments from health insurers to providers, including Hospital Buen Samaritano, was highlighted as a recurring problem discussed in previous forums. [6, 15]
