Carondelet Health Network recently commenced their 145th Anniversary Celebration by unveiling a Legacy Wall art installation at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. This wall features a distinct collection of photography and historical items that represent 145 Years of Care and Commitment by the network. Carondelet leaders, alongside dignitaries and special guests, partnered with the Tucson Metro Chamber for the unveiling event. Monica Vargas-Mahar, Market Chief Executive Officer, expressed pride in continuing the work of the Seven Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who founded Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital, recognized as Arizona's first hospital. She highlighted that while medical advancements have occurred over the past 145 years, Carondelet Health Network's dedication to positively impacting the community's lives remains constant. The network has a long history of providing technologically advanced treatment in Tucson and southern Arizona, with key milestones including the opening of St. Mary's Hospital in 1880, the graduation of the first nursing class in 1918, the establishment of a medical residency program in 1920, the first use of nuclear medicine in Arizona in 1941, the acquisition of a heart-lung machine and Arizona's first open-heart surgery in 1959, the dedication of St. Joseph's Hospital in 1961, and the launch of Tucson's first comprehensive rehabilitation program in 1965.

Jennifer Biggs, RN, who previously served as the Senior Director of Nursing at Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital, has been appointed as the hospital's new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). In her new role as CNO, Biggs will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the hospital's nursing department. A key part of her responsibilities will be to ensure that the nursing staff's work aligns with the overall mission, vision, and values of the Carondelet Health Network organization. Chief Nursing Officers are tasked with the critical role of ensuring that standards related to patient care, clinical practices, and staffing levels are consistently met within the hospital.

Carondelet Health Network has partnered with El Rio Health to offer comprehensive behavioral health services for patients aged 18 and older. This collaboration, which began in October of the previous year with psychiatric inpatient services becoming available at Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital and on-call coverage offered at both St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Hospitals, aims to provide a full continuum of care for individuals in need within the Tucson community. The partnership is highlighted in BizTucson Magazine's Spring 2025 issue as a significant effort to meet a modern healthcare need.
