Holzer Health System recently recognized the sponsors of the Earl Neff Pediatric Fund. This fund, which has been in existence for over 50 years, is supported by area businesses and organizations and provides toys, equipment, and entertainment to pediatric patients receiving care at Holzer's Pediatric Unit. The sponsors for May were The Medical Shoppe, represented by Christina Cain, and Farmers Bank, represented by Amanda Hughes and Amber Cavender. Holzer's staff expressed gratitude for these contributions that benefit the young patients and their families. The policy states that patients are generally responsible for balances not paid by insurance or applicable payers. [6] Holzer makes reasonable attempts to collect from all known payers, including those with whom they have contracts and non-contracted payers. [6] The policy details that Holzer must maintain procedures for timely and accurate submission of claims to all known primary health plans or insurance payers. [6] If Holzer fails to timely submit a claim despite receiving complete patient information, and the payer denies the claim due to untimely filing, the patient is only responsible for the amount they would have owed had the claim been paid. [4, 7] The Leapfrog Group is an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. [4] This "A" grade is a national recognition of Holzer's commitment to patient safety. [4] Leapfrog assigns grades of "A," "B," "C," "D," or "F" to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures related to errors, accidents, injuries, infections, and the systems in place to prevent them. Michael Canady, MD, MBA, CPE, FACS, FAAPL, FACHE, the retired CEO of Holzer Health System (Gallipolis), is set to receive the Ohio Hospital Association's (OHA) Donald R. Newkirk Award. This award is presented in recognition of National Hospital Week, May 12-18, and honors an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution to the health care profession in Ohio. Dr. Canady served as Holzer Health System's chief executive officer from 2016 to 2023 and prior to that, as chief medical officer and chairman of the surgery department. [3, 4]

Premier Anesthesia announced a new partnership with four facilities within the Holzer Health System: Holzer Gallipolis, Holzer Gallipolis Surgery Center, Holzer Jackson, and Holzer Athens Surgery Center. This collaboration focuses on enhancing anesthesia services through tailored clinical models in both inpatient and outpatient settings. While primarily operational, the partnership involves transitioning clinical team members to an employed model and aims to grow the number of clinical providers to support coverage needs across the locations and implement best practices for clinical care, practice management, and patient service. The group plans to recruit additional Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and physician anesthesiologists. This represents an emerging model where an anesthesia practice management company partners with a hospital to facilitate the smooth operation of the clinical program.
