As part of Employee Appreciation Month in May, Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) recognized seven employees with annual CARE Awards and two Providers of the Year honors. The CARE Awards celebrate the health system's core values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Employees from across the system, including Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, North Adams Regional Hospital, and associated provider practices, were recognized. The Providers of the Year were named as Maribeth Pomerantz, a Certified Nurse Midwife at Berkshire OBGYN of BMC, and Adam Gicewicz, MD, a pediatrician at Berkshire Health Pediatrics. Pomerantz was specifically noted for her personalized care for expectant mothers, with colleagues highlighting her willingness to accommodate timely visits and her significant support for patients and their families. Dr. Gicewicz was praised for his ability to alleviate anxiety in pediatric patients, his use of different colored sneakers appealing to children, and his skill in relating to different age groups.

Berkshire Health Systems is moving forward with a $70 million plan to upgrade Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. This initiative aims to modernize services in key areas such as surgical services, the emergency department, and imaging services to accommodate current and projected patient volumes. The project involves contracting with design firm Erdman and includes plans for a lab renovation this year to relocate it to the main floor of the existing building, which will serve as the hospital's long-term laboratory. Once new services move into a planned new building, a floor in the existing facility will be renovated to create a brand-new inpatient unit. [43]

Berkshire Medical Center, which is the community teaching hospital of Berkshire Health Systems, has been awarded an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. [8] This 'A' grade is based on an evaluation of over 30 measures related to errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. [8] This recognition is a national acknowledgment of their commitment to patient safety. [9]
