The West Virginia Cancer Registry, a program of the West Virginia Department of Health, has earned the distinguished Gold Standard for Registry Certification from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). This is the 26th consecutive year the program has received this certification, which signifies the highest possible standard for data quality, completeness, and timeliness. Secretary of Health Dr. Arvin Singh lauded the Cancer Registry team for their hard work and dedication, stating that this national recognition, maintained for nearly three decades, proves their unwavering commitment to collecting, distributing, and evaluating the state's cancer data in a timely manner. The West Virginia Cancer Registry is housed within the Department of Health's Bureau for Public Health, Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services, Division of Cancer Epidemiology, and collects information on all cancers diagnosed and/or treated in West Virginia, as well as those diagnosed and/or treated among West Virginia residents outside of the state through data sharing agreements.

The West Virginia Department of Health announced that Jason Rucker, a division manager within the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), has been appointed to a national education council. This appointment to the National Association of State Emergency Medical Service Officials (NASEMSO)'s Education Council will put West Virginia and its EMS services and educational protocols in the national spotlight. Rucker's role on the council will involve efforts around curriculum development, instructor standards, and competency measurement.
