John Muir Health's Rectal Cancer Program has earned accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) of the American College of Surgeons for the third time. John Muir Health was the first program in the nation to receive this accreditation in 2018, followed by a re-accreditation in 2023, and now again in 2025. According to Dr. Piyush Aggarwal, colorectal surgeon and Medical Director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Program at John Muir Health, this re-accreditation signifies the program's innovative approach and position at the forefront of rectal cancer care. He also highlighted that it reflects the outstanding team and advanced technologies available, which contribute to timely care and the best chance for positive outcomes for patients. The program utilizes a multidisciplinary care (MDC) model, where specialists from various disciplines, including colorectal surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists, along with support staff, collaborate to create customized treatment plans for each patient. This team-based approach allows patients to meet with the entire care team in a single visit, aiming to reduce anxiety and build confidence in their coordinated and individualized care plan. [9, 10]

John Muir Health's Concord Medical Center has been recognized for superior outcomes in heart bypass surgery, ranking first in California and among the top 10 nationally based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This ranking reflects the hospital's high 30-day survival rate for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Additionally, both John Muir Health's Concord and Walnut Creek Medical Centers were included in Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2025 list, marking the seventh consecutive year they have received this recognition. The Concord Medical Center was ranked 191st and the Walnut Creek Medical Center was ranked 359th in the United States.

John Muir Health is expanding its presence in San Ramon with the phased opening of a new $30 million outpatient center at Bishop Ranch 15. This new facility, located across from San Ramon Regional Medical Center, is designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community by offering expanded primary and specialty care services, imaging, lab services, and urgent care in one convenient location. The 52,000-square-foot center more than doubles the size of John Muir Health's previous facility in Bishop Ranch and consolidates several existing San Ramon area clinics. New services available in San Ramon include Obstetrics & Gynecology, General Surgery (Breast and Bariatrics), Colorectal Surgery, Hematology/Oncology, and Urogynecology.

The John Muir Health Foundation successfully concluded its Campaign to Conquer Cancer, raising an unprecedented $137.9 million. This surpasses the initial $100 million goal and marks the largest philanthropic campaign ever in Contra Costa County. The funds raised will support cancer care for patients, ensuring access to state-of-the-art facilities, expanded clinical services, and enhanced support resources. The UCSF-John Muir Health Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center, which opened in February 2024, is a key beneficiary of this campaign, providing comprehensive care, including precision medicine, infusion therapy, radiation oncology, genetic counseling, clinical trials, and survivorship services.
