Steven Travers, Ph.D., CHCIO, CDH-E, was appointed Chief Information Officer at Broward Health in March 2023. Melida Akiti is the Corporate Transformation Executive at Broward Health. She is an experienced healthcare executive with a history of success in the South Florida area. Before joining Broward Health, she was the vice president and later the chief community officer at Memorial Healthcare System, where she led primary care initiatives. She also served as vice president and chief administrator at Jackson Health System. Bernardo “Bernie” B. Fernandez Jr., M.D., is the Corporate Physician Executive at Broward Health. He joined Broward Health after previously serving as chief executive officer of Baptist Health Medical Group from 2014 to 2023 and as Chief Executive Officer and President of Cleveland Clinic Florida from 2006 to 2014. Dr. Fernandez is an internist specializing in vascular medicine. Active in the South Florida community, Dr. Fernandez has held numerous appointments, including serving on the President's Commission on White House Fellowships, as chairman of the Florida Board of Medicine, and as a member of the Orange Bowl Committee and the Broward Workshop. He was also a leader with Florida Atlantic University, helping to establish the voluntary faculty for the Schmidt College of Medicine. In 2013, he was recognized as the National Hospital CEO of the Year by The Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives.
Prior to joining Broward Health, Jeffrey served as the associate vice president of strategic planning at the University of Miami Health System. Previously, Jeffrey served in leadership positions at Quorum Health Resources in Brentwood, TN; Corrigo Health Care Solutions in Clearwater, FL; and Ernst & Young in Iselin, NJ. Jeffrey earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Vermont and his Master of Business Administration from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY.
Before joining Broward Health, Jenna served in various leadership roles at Memorial Healthcare System's Cardiac & Vascular Institute, including director of cardiac and vascular service lines, director of business development and operations, and director of clinical business operations. She is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives of which she served as president in 2023. Jenna earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and her Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Central Florida.
