The Queen's Health Systems held a blessing ceremony for its newly expanded Emergency Department at The Queen's Medical Center (QMC) in Honolulu. The expanded department, now named The Uytengsu Family Emergency Department following a significant donation from Candice Uytengsu, is the busiest in HawaiΚ»i and serves as the primary entry point for the state's most critically ill patients, being the only Level 1 trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, organ transplant program, and busiest STEMI center. The renovations have dramatically increased the number of treatment rooms from 35 to 76 and expanded the department's size to incorporate the latest medical technology, including dedicated facilities for state-of-the-art CT and X-ray services. The expansion also includes enhanced behavioral health services with a dedicated space for patients with behavioral health needs, designed to provide safe care and maintain dignity. Furthermore, the improved patient flow will allow for the safe separation of patients with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases from the general patient population, and upgraded mechanical systems support negative air pressure and enhanced air filtration to prevent the spread of viruses. The Uytengsu Family Emergency Department is scheduled to officially open and begin accepting patients later in June 2025. [4, 6, 8]
