Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center could see a significant increase in Medicaid revenue under a proposal announced by Governor Tate Reeves. The plan aims to provide approximately $700 million to hospitals across the state to address financial challenges. Under the proposed reforms to Medicaid reimbursements, Southwest Health System is projected to receive a 213% increase in Medicaid revenue. The proposal includes the Mississippi Hospital Access Program, which would allow hospitals in the state's Medicaid managed care system to receive payments closer to the average commercial rate, reaching the federal ceiling for Medicaid reimbursement. Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to establish a Family Medicine Residency Program. The program is scheduled to begin in July 2024 and aims to recruit medical school graduates to continue their education and become board-certified in Family Medicine. The initial class is expected to have 4 to 6 residents and grow to 16 to 18 residents within three years. Dr. Lucius M. “Luke” Lampton, appointed as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for Southwest Health, stated that this program will transform the community by making Southwest Health an academic medical center and bringing new faculty to the area who will contribute to the local economy and quality of life. Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center (SMRMC) in McComb announced a formal agreement with St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson to share the integrated EPIC electronic medical record (EHR) platform. As St. Dominic Hospital is part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS), SMRMC will gain full access to the benefits of FMOLHS's integrated software. This partnership aims to enhance care coordination, patient registration, scheduling, and clinical integration, while also streamlining financial and billing processes. A key component of the EPIC system is the MyChart patient portal, which will allow SMRMC patients to securely access their personal health information, schedule appointments, communicate with doctors, request prescription refills, and view test results online via various devices.
