The document states that the host hospital and FSED (Highpoint Health – Sumner Station) were owned by Lifepoint Health until a joint venture was formed in 2023 between Lifepoint Health and Ascension Saint Thomas, resulting in the current ownership structure. The project, with a cost of $19,697,000, aims to allow patients to remain at Sumner Station for inpatient care, reduce EMS bypasses, and improve access to health services in southeastern Sumner County due to increasing traffic congestion and population growth. It also seeks to decompress the main Sumner Regional Medical Center campus, which is experiencing capacity constraints. Highpoint Health – Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas announced the upgrade and expansion of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to a Level II facility. This expansion means the Gallatin location is now equipped and trained to care for premature infants born as early as 32 weeks gestation, as well as newborns needing specialized monitoring and treatment for moderate health conditions. This allows families to receive this higher level of care locally, reducing the need for transport to hospitals in downtown Nashville. The 4-bed Level II NICU is staffed with experienced neonatology providers and specially trained nurses offering comprehensive care, including non-invasive respiratory support, intravenous nutrition, and treatment for infections and jaundice. The NICU also provides access to human donor milk, bedside digital imaging, and phototherapy. This upgrade provides peace of mind for parents and allows them to be more involved in their child's early care, enhancing family bonding and reducing logistical and financial burdens associated with out-of-town stays. The joint venture between Lifepoint Health and Ascension Saint Thomas concerning Highpoint Health System has been expanded to incorporate two additional facilities: Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) – Winchester and Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) – Sewanee. These two sites, previously under Lifepoint Health, will now be part of the Highpoint Health joint venture, which is jointly owned and operated by Lifepoint Health and Ascension Saint Thomas. Highpoint Health encompasses several facilities in Middle Tennessee, including those in Gallatin, Hartsville, and Carthage, along with numerous clinics. The expansion aims to build upon the existing partnership's success in improving access to quality care and services in the region. By integrating STRHS-Winchester and STRHS-Sewanee into the Highpoint Health framework, the partnership expects to further strengthen access to necessary services and specialists in these communities. Lifepoint Health and Ascension Saint Thomas are expanding their Highpoint Health joint venture in Middle Tennessee to include two new facilities: Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) – Winchester and Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) – Sewanee. These two legacy Lifepoint Health sites of care, located in Southeastern Tennessee, will join the Highpoint Health System joint venture, which is jointly owned and operated by Lifepoint Health and Ascension Saint Thomas. Highpoint Health currently includes Highpoint Health – Sumner and Highpoint Health – Sumner Station in Gallatin, Highpoint Health – Trousdale in Hartsville, and Highpoint Health – Riverview in Carthage, along with more than 15 affiliated clinics and sites of care. William Haugh, president, Central Division, Lifepoint Health, expressed excitement about adding these facilities to the joint venture, noting their critical role in providing services locally and the success of the Highpoint Health partnership in strengthening access to services and specialists. Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas, stated that this expansion is an important step in enhancing healthcare access for the communities served, and that joining Highpoint Health will provide STRHS-Winchester and STRHS-Sewanee with greater access to Ascension Saint Thomas' nationally recognized clinical expertise and specialty services. The Winchester and Sewanee hospitals will be majority-owned and operated by Lifepoint Health and co-branded with Ascension Saint Thomas. Their current leadership teams will remain in place, with no significant changes anticipated for employees, and the facilities will be renamed Highpoint Health – Winchester and Highpoint Health – Sewanee. Highpoint Health Partners welcomed Dr. Reyna Niner, a board-certified family medicine physician, to Hartsville. Dr. Niner will provide comprehensive family medicine services for both adults and children in the Trousdale County area. Her practice is located at the new Highpoint Family Wellness clinic at 109 River Street.
