Executive Leadership

James Linder, MD

Chief Executive Officer and Board Chair

After more than 40 years in a variety of roles for Nebraska Medicine, UNMC, and the University of Nebraska, James Linder, MD, will step down as Nebraska Medicine CEO on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. [2] Dr. Linder has held the CEO title since August 2018. [2] As of July 9, 2024, he was named the chair of the Nebraska Medicine Board of Directors. [6] His past leadership roles include interim roles as president of the University of Nebraska system and Dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. [6] His research efforts led to new screening technologies that reduced the incidence of cervical cancer, as well as the development of a hematology instrument which enabled the rapid diagnosis of blood disorders. [6]

Kyle Skiermont, PharmD

Senior Vice President of Operations

Kyle Skiermont, PharmD, is promoted to senior vice president of Operations after most recently serving as vice president of pharmacy and therapeutics for Nebraska Medicine and assistant dean for clinical affairs at UNMC College of Pharmacy. [4] As part of a leadership transition, Dr. Skiermont, who currently serves as senior vice president of Operations, will be promoted to chief operating officer on July 1, 2025. [2]

Anna Cramer

Chief People Officer | Chief Legal & Compliance Officer

Anna Cramer serves as the Chief People Officer and Chief Legal & Compliance Officer at Nebraska Medicine. She oversees various departments including the People Team, Legal, Compliance, Community Engagement, Government Affairs, Risk Management, and Privacy. Cramer's legal journey at Nebraska Medicine began in 2012 as Counsel, supporting corporate legal functions. She later held roles as Interim General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel before being appointed as Chief Legal & Compliance Officer and General Counsel in June 2018. She has served in her current dual leadership role since November 2023. Before her time in healthcare, Cramer worked as legal and regulatory counsel in industries such as pharmacy, health insurance, real estate, and franchising. She also served as Regulatory Counsel at Home Instead, Inc., specializing in legal and policy matters for the home care sector, and taught graduate and undergraduate business law and ethics courses at the College of Saint Mary. Anna Cramer earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law and holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She is a board member for Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue and is involved in professional organizations including the American Health Lawyers Association, Nebraska Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsel, and the Rotary Club of Omaha. She has been recognized as one of Becker's Healthcare's 99 Chief People Officers to Know.

Harris Frankel

Chief Medical & External Affairs Officer

Harris A. Frankel, MD, is the Chief Medical & External Affairs Officer at Nebraska Medicine. He is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, with over three decades of leadership experience in physician practice, hospital, and health system settings. Dr. Frankel is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurological Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and maintains an active patient practice in Neurology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1986, completed an internship in general internal medicine at Creighton University Medical Center in 1987, and finished his neurology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1990, serving as chief resident. Prior to joining UNMC, he was in private practice for nearly 21 years. In his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Frankel works to represent the interests of Nebraska Medicine's medical staff and has been involved in initiatives to improve quality, patient safety, and outcomes. He also oversees accreditation/regulatory compliance, privacy, internal audit, and risk management departments. In his external affairs capacity, he is involved in developing strategic relationships and philanthropic efforts. Dr. Frankel is board certified in Neurology and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology, American Medical Association, Nebraska Medical Association (NMA), and Metropolitan Omaha Medical Society (MOMS), having served as past president of both the NMA and MOMS.

Jana Danielson

VP, Revenue Cycle

Jana Danielson, who previously held the executive director role in Revenue Cycle, is now vice president, Revenue Cycle. [18] Danielson has been with Nebraska Medicine since February of 2004, serving in various leadership roles within Revenue Cycle throughout her career. [18]

Jennifer Bartholomew

Vice President Facilities Management

Jennifer Bartholomew is now vice president of Facilities Management. [18] She has worked for Nebraska Medicine since 2013 and previously served as executive director of Facilities Management. [18] Bartholomew leads Nebraska Medicine facilities operations, planning and construction. [18]

Micah Beachy

VP & Chief Clinical Quality Officer

Micah Beachy, DO, FACP, SFHM, is the Vice President and Chief Clinical Quality Officer at Nebraska Medicine and an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Hospital Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He earned his medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Iowa and completed his internal medicine residency at UNMC. After residency, he became an academic hospitalist and core faculty at Nebraska Medicine, holding leadership positions such as unit-based medical director and medical director for the Clinical Effectiveness program before becoming chief quality officer in 2020. His responsibilities include quality, patient safety, clinical effectiveness, population health, medical informatics, and patient and provider experience. Dr. Beachy is also involved in professional organizations including the American College of Physicians (ACP), Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), American Medical Association (AMA), Nebraska Medical Association (NMA), and the Metro Omaha Medical Society (MOMS). He was recently selected as the governor for the Nebraska chapter of the ACP. He also holds a BS from Eastern Mennonite University and an AA from Hutchinson Community College.

Stephanie Daubert

CFO

Stephanie Daubert serves as chief financial officer for Nebraska Medicine. [10] In her three decades with the organization, Daubert has worked in a variety of roles beginning her career as a unit secretary while in college, and working her way up into more progressive leadership roles. [10]

Steven J. Lisco

Chief Academic Officer

Steven J. Lisco, MD, serves as the Chief Academic Officer for Nebraska Medicine and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Medicine. He also holds the title of Myrna Newland Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at UNMC. Dr. Lisco earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Grinnell College and his medical degree from Loyola University-Stritch School of Medicine. He completed residency training in internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center, followed by an anesthesiology residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and a critical care medicine fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He joined the UNMC faculty in 2012 as a professor and chair of Anesthesiology. Before his time at UNMC, Dr. Lisco was a faculty member at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he established and directed the anesthesiology critical care services and non-OR anesthesia. He also previously held faculty appointments at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Lisco specializes in critical care medicine and thoracic and vascular anesthesia and remains active as a clinician. He is also a clinician scientist with numerous publications. During his tenure as chair of Anesthesiology from 2012 to 2023, the department significantly grew in size and research funding. He is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Physicians.

Kelly Vaughn

Chief Nursing Officer

Kelly Vaughn will serve as CNO, leading the system’s thousands of nurses across its two hospitals, 70 clinics, and support areas. [4]

Sue Nuss, PhD

Clinical Workforce Development Officer

Sue Nuss, PhD, is taking on a new role of clinical workforce development officer for Nebraska Medicine and assistant vice chancellor at 718-bed University of Nebraska Medical Center. [4] Dr. Nuss, who previously served as CNO, will focus on pipeline development between UNMC and higher education and regional nursing and allied health schools in the new position. [4]

Julie Lazure

Vice President – Nurse Executive

Julie Lazure is promoted to vice president – nurse executive after most recently serving as vice president of operations. [4] Julie will build on her decades of extraordinary experience to assume administrative leadership of Bellevue Medical Center and other hospital-based nursing departments. [12]

Geri Schmid

Geri Schmid, who has served as executive director, Payer Relations/Managed Care Contracting, became vice president of Payer Strategy. [18] Schmid started at Nebraska Medicine in March of 2004, first serving as the director of Revenue Cycle for UNMC Physicians. [18]
