Researchers at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center have developed a novel algorithm called TACIT (Threshold-based Assignment of Cell Types from Multiplexed Imaging Data) that shows promise in rapidly identifying cell types to help determine the best options for cancer patients regarding treatment and medicine prescription. This algorithm, developed by Jinze Liu, Ph.D., and Kevin Byrd, D.D.S., Ph.D., can cut down cell identification time from over a month to mere minutes, significantly saving time and resources for researchers. TACIT utilizes data from over 5 million cells across major body systems and has demonstrated superior accuracy and scalability compared to existing models. The researchers are using artificial intelligence to increase the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis, anticipating that TACIT's ability to improve patient outcomes will grow with more data.
