This act aims to protect patients from unexpected high medical bills when they receive emergency care, or non-emergency care from out-of-network providers at in-network facilities, as well as air ambulance services from out-of-network providers. San Luis Valley Health affirms that it provides a good faith estimate of expected charges to patients who do not have health coverage and makes a list of standard charges available. Patients have the right to receive a good faith estimate and can dispute bills that are at least $400 more than the estimate.
