The Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) Auxiliary announced an $8 million commitment towards Arkansas Children's Hospital's $318 million expansion project. This commitment was part of the auxiliary's annual fundraising efforts, which also saw a record donation of $1.65 million raised in the past year. This marks the 15th consecutive year the auxiliary has raised over $1 million for the hospital. The $318 million expansion project across Arkansas Children's campuses in Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas aims to improve pediatric healthcare by focusing on delivering better access, improved outcomes, and enhanced on-campus experiences. Arkansas Children's served a record 180,000 children in its 2024 fiscal year, and the expansion is intended to meet the growing need for services.

Progress is being made on the newest phase of Arkansas Children's Hospital's multi-year, $318 million expansion in Little Rock. This phase, which broke ground last year, includes a new standalone outpatient care facility featuring an outpatient surgery center. The construction team has already completed significant work on the new building, which is scheduled to be finished by summer 2026. According to Marcy Doderer, president and CEO of Arkansas Children's, this expansion addresses a deficit in outpatient space and aims to provide a dedicated area for families with children needing same-day procedures. The new facility on the first floor will include a new lobby, an orthopedics center with additional exam rooms and radiology equipment for streamlined x-rays, and an expanded sports medicine center. The interior design is intended to create a sense of safety and security, familiar to those who have been in the older building. The project also includes transforming a former parking lot into a park and is expected to attract more providers, potentially increasing the expert staff by around 150 and the full staff by 500 within two years of opening, allowing the hospital to see more patients.

Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) in Little Rock has filed an emergency petition in Pulaski County court seeking a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order for a terminally ill child against the wishes of the parents. The child, identified as DJC, was born prematurely in January 2023 and has remained hospitalized his entire life due to multiple complications, including underdeveloped lungs. His condition worsened in February 2025 after a prolonged resuscitation period resulted in a global brain injury, leaving him without expectation of meaningful interaction and requiring constant sedation. ACH's petition, filed on March 31, 2025, requests the court to override the parents' refusal to consent to a DNR, which would allow the child to pass away during the next required resuscitation. This legal action is part of a larger strained relationship between the hospital and the parents, which included a lawsuit filed by ACH in August 2024 seeking a restraining order against the parents following alleged threats and an incident where the mother allegedly attacked a nurse. Arkansas Children's Northwest (ACNW) has appointed Dr. Ryan McDonough, a healthcare leader and endocrinologist, as its new chief medical officer. [4, 6, 11, 13, 16] Dr. McDonough is set to join the ACNW team in Springdale in the spring and brings extensive experience in pediatric endocrinology, clinical informatics, and healthcare leadership. [4, 6, 11, 13, 16] He previously served at Children's Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was the chief medical informatics officer and senior medical director, as well as the co-medical director of the Children's Diabetes Center. [4, 6, 11, 13, 16] His work at Children's Mercy led to significant improvements in diabetes care, such as transitioning new-onset diabetes education to an outpatient setting. [6, 11, 13] Dr. McDonough is triple board-certified in general pediatrics, pediatric endocrinology and diabetes, and clinical informatics. [6, 11, 13, 16]
