Recent News

Jun 12, 2025
UVA Health announced several significant developments on June 12, 2025. Among them is the opening of a new national program dedicated to providing comprehensive care for individuals with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and other hypermobility disorders. These conditions are often challenging to diagnose and can lead to widespread pain and various medical issues due to their impact on connective tissues throughout the body. In addition to clinical advancements, a study highlighted the success of a University of Virginia-developed artificial pancreas system. This new technology demonstrated improved control for patients with type 1 diabetes by adapting to their changing bodies and allowing users to test modifications to the system's operation. Furthering its research efforts, a team led by Dr. James Stone at the UVA School of Medicine secured a substantial $3.2 million grant from the federal Department of Defense. This funding is allocated to enhance a vital tool aimed at protecting the brain health of military personnel. The School of Medicine also reported new findings that potentially offer a key to halting the cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. Community engagement and outreach were also prominent, with the UVA Cancer Center Community Advisory Council unveiling a roadmap focused on reducing the impact of cancer across both Virginia and West Virginia. Furthermore, UVA Health facilities received community support through donations, with UVA Health Culpeper receiving a donation from Reynolds Subaru and UVA Health Prince William benefiting from a donation from Safford Brown Subaru.
