The article, published during National Cancer Survivor Month, details Chris's battle with stage four esophageal cancer diagnosed in 2021. Despite a severe prognosis, Chris, supported by his faith, family, and the medical team at the Mary Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center, underwent chemotherapy which resulted in the astonishing disappearance of tumors. Following the detection of minor cellular activity, he had surgery to remove parts of his esophagus and stomach. Chris attributes his recovery to the exceptional care received at the MWHC Regional Cancer Center. His story emphasizes the importance of early detection, rigorous treatment, and the emotional support system. As a recognition of his story, arrangements were made for Chris to throw the first pitch at a Fred Nats game and receive a customized jersey. [19]

The Lloyd F. Moss Free Clinic, which has served the Fredericksburg region's uninsured and indigent population since 1993, closed its doors on Thursday, June 12, 2025. The clinic's board of directors voted to cease operations due to insurmountable financial difficulties. Mary Washington Healthcare, a longtime partner of the Moss Free Clinic, has offered to assist patients impacted by the closure. According to Eric Fletcher, MWHC's chief operating officer and senior vice president, MWHC officials planned to meet with Moss board members to coordinate appointments for former patients. Fletcher stated that the region has a resilient healthcare safety network that includes Mary Washington Healthcare sites and other free and charitable clinics, which can help absorb theζ‚£θ€… load. Mary Washington Healthcare has established a hotline (540.741.1141) for affected patients to help them access appointments at MWHC locations and other regional clinics. The closure follows a period of financial struggle for the clinic, which included cutting hours and services after an earlier split with Mary Washington Healthcare regarding IT, human resources, payroll, and accounts payable services.

The aim is to allow health workers to seek necessary care without concerns about their license or job security. Mary Washington Healthcare emphasized their commitment to the health and well-being of their associates, offering various programs and maintaining a streamlined, non-intrusive process for credential and licensure verification. This initiative is part of a larger effort by ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare, a coalition working to eliminate barriers to mental healthcare for health workers who are at increased risk for burnout and mental health conditions. Mary Washington Healthcare is hosting a Free Community Baby Shower for new and expecting parents on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Convention Center. The event is designed to support families who have welcomed a baby in the past year or are currently expecting. Key highlights include free 15-minute educational sessions led by MWHC experts on topics such as postpartum mental health and summer safety. Attendees can also connect with over 40 local businesses and organizations, including the Virginia Department of Health, Pampers, and Anthem Healthkeepers, as well as have access to health services like free car seat checks and TDAP vaccines. Raffles and goodie bags will also be available, with in-person interpreters for Spanish and Dari/Pashto/Farsi speakers. Registration is suggested for planning purposes and to be entered into prize drawings. [11]
