Punxsutawney Area Hospital (PAH), a partner of the Pennsylvania Mountains Care Network, announced Travis Smith, RRT, as the recipient of the 2025 CARE Award. [8] The CARE Award Recognition program was established in May 2023 at PAH to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of staff members who do not qualify for the DAISY Award, which is specifically for nurses. [8, 12] The program recognizes individuals who demonstrate Compassion, Attendance, Reliability, and Excellence in their jobs. [8, 12] Nominations are accepted throughout the year from anyone who observes or experiences extraordinary compassionate care or exemplary job performance from a staff member. [8, 12] The annual award is presented during National Hospital Week in May. [8, 12] Travis Smith, who started at PAH in 2013, was the sole recipient of the prestigious award for 2025. [8, 12]

Armstrong County Memorial Hospital (ACMH), as a partner hospital of the Pennsylvania Mountains Care Network (PMCN), signed a clinical training affiliation agreement with Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) for their proposed college of osteopathic medicine. Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and Armstrong County Memorial Hospital (ACMH) signed a clinical training affiliation agreement for IUP's proposed college of osteopathic medicine. This agreement means that the entire Pennsylvania Mountains Care Network (PMCN), including IRMC, PAH, and now ACMH, is fully onboard to support IUP's college. The collaboration aims to educate future healthcare professionals committed to practicing in rural communities, leveraging the network's clinical, technological, and administrative resources. Stephen Wolfe, CEO of PMCN and IRMC, highlighted that this partnership will help develop the college and ensure graduates are well-prepared for the unique challenges of rural healthcare. [20]

Armstrong County Memorial Hospital (ACMH), a proud partner of the Pennsylvania Mountains Care Network, successfully implanted the first two CardioMEMS HF Systems on October 8, 2024. This innovative cardiac procedure provides a new remote monitoring option for heart failure patients. The CardioMEMS HF System involves implanting a small sensor in the pulmonary artery during a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. This sensor measures and records heart rate and pulmonary artery pressure, providing real-time data that allows clinicians to make timely adjustments to medications, potentially before patients experience symptoms like shortness of breath or swelling. Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC), a partner of the Pennsylvania Mountains Care Network, is utilizing AI technology in its Nurse Residency Program. Through a vendor, HealthStream, the program incorporates self-assessments for new nurse graduates. Based on the results of these assessments, HealthStream's AI technology suggests specific learning modules tailored to each resident. This integration of AI is part of IRMC's effort to support new graduates transitioning into nursing practice. [10]
