Vi-Anne Antrum, DNP, RN

Chief Nursing Officer

Dr. Vi-Anne Antrum, DNP, RN, is the System Chief Nursing Officer and a Senior Vice President at Cone Health. She is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of nursing and operations experience. Dr. Antrum joined Cone Health in 2019 as Senior Vice President and Associate Chief Nurse Executive and assumed the Chief Nursing Officer role in 2022 after serving on an interim basis. In her role, she is responsible for setting standards for nursing practice, improving patient care quality and safety, and leading a team of nearly 5,000 people. Her responsibilities also include overseeing rehabilitation services, post-acute care, behavioral health, spiritual care, dieticians, and respiratory therapy, with matrixed responsibility for advanced practice providers, transitions of care, and patient experience. She chairs the Cone Health Senior Leadership Council. Dr. Antrum's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in nursing from Daemen College, a master's degree in business administration and nursing from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in systems-level leadership from Thomas Edison State University. She also completed Harvard University's managing healthcare delivery executive education program. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and serves as Regent for North Carolina. She received the ACHE Distinguished Service Award in 2016. Dr. Antrum is also a member of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) System Chief Nurse Executive Committee and the North Carolina Healthcare Association Workforce Advisory Council. She has been recognized as a 2022 Triad Nurse of Distinction and an NC Great 100 Nurse in 2021, and received the Triad Business Journal Outstanding Woman in Business Award in 2023. She previously held executive nursing roles at Great Lakes Health System, including Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer.

Andy Barrow

Chief Financial Officer

Andy Barrow is the Chief Financial Officer at Cone Health. He is responsible for the financial oversight of the Cone Health network. Barrow joined Cone Health in 2012 as vice-president of financial services and became senior vice-president of finance in 2020. Before joining Cone Health, he served as Corporate Controller for the Cape Fear Valley Health System from 2009 to 2012. Barrow is a certified public accountant. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration with a Health Care Concentration from East Carolina University and a Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University. He is a member of the North Carolina Healthcare Financial Management Association and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. He also serves on the finance committee for the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the finance advisory committee of Goodwill of the Triad. Robert Carter

Chief Legal Counsel

Robert Carter is the Chief Legal Counsel and a Senior Vice President at Cone Health. He joined Cone Health in 2006 as the system's first general counsel and was named vice president in 2011. Carter earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelor's degree in English from Sewanee: The University of the South. After entering private practice in the mid-1990s, he focused on healthcare law, working with hospitals and healthcare systems in North Carolina, including Cone Health. He is a member of the North Carolina and Guilford County Bar Associations and the American Health Lawyers Association, and has served on the board of the North Carolina Society of Health Care Attorneys. Carter also serves on the Board of Directors of ArtsGreensboro.

Chris Cornue

Chief Strategy Officer

Chris Cornue is the Chief Strategy Officer at Cone Health, joining the organization in May 2022. In this role, he is responsible for driving strategy, innovation, and growth for the health system. His previous executive roles include Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at Atrium Navicent Health and CEO of Banner Health's McKee Medical Center. He has also held executive positions at Sinai Health System, University of Chicago Medicine, and the University HealthSystem Consortium. He began his career as a paramedic and worked in biomedical research before moving into healthcare management consulting. Valerie Leschber, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Valerie Leschber, MD, is the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Cone Health, which she joined in 2003. Prior to this role, she served as Cone Health's chief medical information officer. She is a board-certified internist and is also board-certified in clinical informatics. Dr. Leschber earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and completed her residency at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. She also holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Providence. Her background includes serving as a practicing physician and division chief for LeBauer Primary Care, as well as medical director for Cone Health Medical Group Primary Care Division. Her responsibilities as CMO include focusing on the quality and safety of medical care, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading physician and advanced practice provider recruitment. She also serves as the medical director for the Elon University Department of Physician Assistant Studies and is on the board of Peacehaven Community Farm. She is a graduate of several leadership programs, including the GE Fellowship Program of the Health Management Academy's CMO Forum and the Center for Creative Leadership's Physician Leadership Academy.

Angelo Sinopoli, MD

Executive Vice President, Value-Based Care

Angelo Sinopoli, MD, serves as the Executive Vice President, Value-Based Care at Cone Health. With over three decades of experience, he is a physician executive with a clinical background as a pulmonologist specializing in critical care medicine. Prior to joining Cone Health, Dr. Sinopoli was the Chief Network Officer for Upstream and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for Prisma Health. He also founded the Care Coordination Institute. His expertise includes developing clinically integrated healthcare systems, Medicare shared savings programs, and population health initiatives. Dr. Sinopoli earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina. He is also involved with the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) and the CMS Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN).

Chuck Wallington, PhD

Chief Marketing & Communications Officer

Chuck Wallington, PhD, is the Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer at Cone Health. He has over 30 years of experience in marketing and communications across various sectors, including healthcare, consumer packaged goods, and financial services. Prior to joining Cone Health in 2011, he held leadership roles at American Express, Nabisco Brands, and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He also briefly worked as a newspaper reporter. Dr. Wallington earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a master's degree in communications management from Syracuse University and a PhD in Leadership Studies from North Carolina A&T State University. His master's thesis and dissertation research focused on the underrepresentation of African American males in the public relations profession and the leadership journeys of African American male executives. He is the author of "A Seat at the C-Suite Table: Insights from the Leadership Journeys of African American Executives." At Cone Health, he is part of the executive leadership team and is responsible for the health system's marketing and communications strategy. He was the first African American to hold the Executive Vice President role at Cone Health. He is also involved in various professional organizations, serving on the boards of the Institute for Public Relations, the Public Relations Society of America, the Diversity Action Alliance, and the Museum for Public Relations. He was the recipient of the 2024 Betsy Plank Award for his commitment to mentorship.

Kathryn Ashby

Vice President, Finance

Kathryn Ashby is the Vice President of Finance at Cone Health, where she has worked for over 17 years. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing various financial operations, including financial planning and analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and financial decision support. Before becoming Vice President, Ashby served as the executive director of financial planning and analysis for Cone Health. Throughout her tenure at Cone Health, she has held progressively responsible positions within the finance department, starting as a management accountant and moving through roles such as senior financial analyst and director of financial planning and analysis. Ashby holds a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, and German studies from Guilford College and an MBA from Elon University. Ryan Blackledge

Ryan Blackledge is the Vice President, Government & External Affairs at Cone Health. Prior to this role, he served as the Director of Government Affairs for Cone Health, beginning in 2015. Before joining Cone Health, Blackledge was a senior staff attorney with the North Carolina General Assembly starting in 2007, where he played a key role in drafting legislation, including bills related to healthcare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act. Brian Boies, MD, MBA

Chief Academic Officer

Dr. Brian Boies, MD, MBA, is the Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Cone Health. He also serves as the Designated Institutional Officer for their ACGME-associated residency programs and is the campus director for the Greensboro site for UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Boies earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School and holds a bachelor's degree in bioengineering from Rice University, where he graduated cum laude. He completed his anesthesiology residency and a pain medicine fellowship at UT Health San Antonio. He is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain management. Chris Brown

Chris Brown is the vice president of operations for Cone Health Medical Group, a position he was appointed to in December 2018. Mike Simms
