Primary Electronic Health Record System

Research Analysis
Methodology & Findings

Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH), a member of Northwell Health, utilizes the FollowMyHealth patient portal for patient access to their health information. This portal is a product of Veradigm, formerly Allscripts. Northwell Health has historically used Allscripts' EHR systems, specifically Allscripts Sunrise in its hospitals and Allscripts TouchWorks in its outpatient practices. However, Northwell Health announced in March 2023 a strategic agreement with Epic to implement Epic's integrated electronic health record system across its entire health system. This transition to Epic is being rolled out in phases, with the first phase beginning in 2025. Therefore, while SIUH currently uses the FollowMyHealth patient portal connected to their existing EHR system, Northwell Health is in the process of transitioning to the Epic EHR system, which typically uses the MyChart patient portal. This indicates that a change in the patient portal is likely as the Epic implementation progresses across the Northwell Health system.
