Research Analysis
Methodology & Findings

The patient portal used by Columbia University Department of Pediatrics, Division of Clinical Genetics (pediatrics.columbia.edu) is called **Connect**. This patient portal is a shared platform utilized by Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian, and Weill Cornell Medicine. Connect is the branded patient portal for the **Epic** electronic health record (EHR) system used by these institutions. Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian fully transitioned to the Epic system and the Connect patient portal on February 1, 2020. The patient portal branded as Connect is referred to as "Connect ('MyChart'): Patient Portal" within the description of the Epic Community Connect program offered by NewYork-Presbyterian, indicating that Connect is their instance of Epic's MyChart patient portal. Through the Connect portal, patients of Columbia, including those in the Division of Clinical Genetics, can access various services such as viewing test results, scheduling appointments, paying bills, communicating with their providers, and accessing after-visit summaries. Existing MyChart users were directed to log in to Connect, and options were provided for obtaining MyChart activation links for new users who had previously visited the organization, further linking Connect to the MyChart platform powered by Epic.
