Research Analysis
Methodology & Findings

Orange County, New York, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) utilizes a countywide electronic health record (EHR) and electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) system known as OC-MEDS. This system is used by EMS providers in the field to document patient care and is designed for data exchange with receiving hospitals through a module called the Hospital Hub, allowing hospitals to view and print patient care reports. Orange County EMS is also involved in a project to establish bi-directional data exchange with hospital EHR systems using ImageTrend's Health Information Hub (HIH) and Elite Field system to improve care coordination and data sharing between EMS and hospitals. This integration facilitates the electronic sharing of patient data between the pre-hospital setting and the hospital. However, the search results do not indicate the existence of a dedicated patient portal specifically for individuals to directly access their EMS records generated by Orange County Emergency Services through OC-MEDS. While other healthcare entities in Orange County may offer patient portals (like Garnet Health's MyChart), this functionality does not appear to be available for county EMS records via a direct patient portal. Accessing these records typically involves a public records request process.
