Primary Electronic Health Record System
Northwell Health, a key partner of the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, currently utilizes multiple patient portals, with a significant transition to Epic's electronic health record (EHR) system underway. This transition indicates a future move towards Epic's patient portal, MyChart. Currently, patient portals used within the Northwell Health system include FollowMyHealth and PrimePATIENT. FollowMyHealth is described as an app that allows patients to access and manage personal health records online and works in conjunction with a Northwell account. PrimePATIENT is also offered by Northwell Health as a convenient way for patients to access their health information. Additionally, some practices affiliated with Northwell Health Physician Partners have been noted to use other patient portals such as ezAccess and My Patient Visit. ezAccess integrates with athenaPractice, athenaFlow, and athenaOne EHR systems, among others. My Patient Visit is a patient portal provided by Nextech, a healthcare technology solution for specialty providers. Northwell Health announced in March 2023 a partnership with Epic to implement a unified EHR system across its network. This comprehensive transition to Epic is being rolled out in phases, with the initial go-live expected in 2025. The goal of this transition is to create a single patient record across all Northwell facilities, which would typically involve the use of Epic's integrated patient portal, MyChart. Therefore, while multiple patient portals like FollowMyHealth, PrimePATIENT, ezAccess, and My Patient Visit may currently be in use depending on the specific clinical practice within the Northwell Health system that is affiliated with the Zucker School of Medicine, the health system is in the process of transitioning to Epic, which will centralize patient records and likely transition patients to the MyChart portal in the coming years. FollowMyHealth is known to integrate with various EHR systems, including those from Allscripts. PrimePATIENT has been associated with Greenway Health's PrimeSUITE EHR. ezAccess integrates with athenahealth products and other PM/EMRs. My Patient Visit is linked to Nextech EHR platforms.
