Desert Ridge Family Physicians transitioned to a new patient portal powered by Athena on October 4, 2023. Their previous patient portal was NextMD. The new patient portal, referred to as simply "the Patient Portal" on their website, is integrated with the Athena EHR system. Patients are required to create a new account in this new portal to access their information and communicate with their physicians. The old NextMD portal was available for a limited time after the transition for patients to retrieve historical information, but it is no longer monitored for messages or refill requests. Desert Ridge Family Physicians utilizes this secure patient portal as part of their electronic health record (EHR) system to allow patients to communicate directly with their physicians and request medication refills or referrals. They previously used a NextGen system, as indicated by a case study mentioning "NextGen's Care Guidelines" in relation to their practice.
