Research Analysis
Methodology & Findings

Norton Thoracic Institute, a part of CommonSpirit Health, utilizes a patient portal that is primarily branded as the "CommonSpirit Patient Portal". In some regions, it may also be referred to as "MyCommonSpirit – Mountain patient portal". This patient portal is connected to the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. CommonSpirit Health has been in the process of consolidating its various EHR systems into a single instance of Epic across its network. This transition has involved moving many facilities to the Epic platform. Notably, information from CommonSpirit Health indicates that patients who previously used MyChart will use the same username and password to access the new CommonSpirit Patient Portal, strongly suggesting that MyChart is the underlying technology for the patient portal. MyChart is the well-known patient portal specifically designed and used by healthcare systems that have implemented Epic as their EHR.
