Research Analysis
Methodology & Findings

The Buffalo VA Medical Center (buffalo.va.gov) utilizes the patient portal known as My HealtheVet. This portal is the Department of Veterans Affairs' online platform for Veterans, active-duty service members, their dependents, and caregivers to manage their healthcare needs. The VA is currently undergoing a transition from its legacy electronic health record (EHR) system to a new system provided by Oracle Cerner. This modernization effort aims to create a single, integrated EHR system for both the VA and the Department of Defense. The My HealtheVet portal is being integrated into the broader VA.gov platform as part of this modernization. While the rollout of the Oracle Cerner EHR to specific VA medical centers is a phased process, the My HealtheVet portal serves as the patient interface for the VA's health record system. Therefore, the My HealtheVet patient portal at the Buffalo VA Medical Center is connected to the VA's EHR system, which is in the process of transitioning to Oracle Cerner.
