Joseph MacDonald

Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center

Dr. Joseph MacDonald oversees clinical activities and resources to ensure the efficient delivery of health services aimed at achieving high-quality patient outcomes. [3] He is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and is a fellow in both the American College of Osteopathic Internists and the Society of Hospital Medicine. [3] Prior to joining Lancaster Medical Center, MacDonald served as chair of the Department of Medicine at UPMC Harrisburg, UPMC West Shore and UPMC Community Osteopathic. [3] He also previously served as vice president of the medical staff at UPMC Lititz and was network medical co-director, hospitalist service, for UPMC in Central Pennsylvania. [12] MacDonald served as a U.S. Army major and physician on active duty, including a combat deployment to Iraq. [4, 12] He earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Einstein Medical Center. He also holds an MBA from Saint Joseph's University. Angela Sonon, DNP, CRNP, oversees the day-to-day operations of the hospital, working with departments and managers to ensure the hospital is operating efficiently and effectively.
