Dr. Hamel joined the Lakeland Health medical staff in 1983, practiced medicine for 23 years, and held various executive roles before becoming CEO of Lakeland Health in 2009. Lakeland Health was formed through the integration of Watervliet Hospital, Southwestern Medical Clinic and Hospice at Home, which Dr. Hamel led. He assumed the role of Corewell Health's president in Southwest Michigan in 2018 and is retiring on June 30, 2024.
