Donald Boyd

President, Chief Executive Officer & Director

Appointed president and chief executive officer of Kaleida Health in July 2022. [4, 5] Most recently served as president and chief operating officer. [4, 5] During his time as COO, he also led Kaleida Health's COVID-19 response. [4, 5] Prior to that, Boyd was executive vice president of business development for Kaleida Health, a role he held for 10 years. [4, 5] He built and grew numerous partnership and affiliations including Great Lakes Integrated Network, Upper Allegheny Health System, Brooks/TLC Hospital System Inc., Western New York Urology, Great Lakes Cancer Care Collaborative and more. Shannon Bryant

Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer

Shannon Bryant, LMHC, was appointed Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Kaleida Health in November 2020. In this role, she is responsible for providing strategic leadership in developing, implementing, and monitoring diversity plans, as well as optimizing organizational culture to be inclusive of all populations served by Kaleida Health. She also works with the system's Employee Resource Groups and Inclusion Council. Before joining Kaleida Health, Bryant was the director of learning, development, and diversity at Person Centered Services, where she was responsible for creating and driving the company's diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. Prior to that, she served as the director of clinical care coordination at Evergreen Health, overseeing services for the Health Home program. Bryant holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a master's degree in health counseling from Canisius College. She is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a graduate of Leadership Buffalo, and serves on the boards of the Neighborhood Health Center of WNY and the YMCA Delaware Branch. She was also recognized as a "Top 100 Under 50 Executive and Emerging Leader" by Diversity MBA Magazine in 2024.

Michael P. Hughes

Senior Vice President Chief Administrative Officer

Michael P. Hughes served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Kaleida Health for 20 years, having been recruited in 2004. In this role, he was responsible for external affairs, including marketing, communications, and government relations, as well as fundraising, planning, construction, and real estate. He also advised the CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors on policy, strategy, communications, and government relations. Prior to this, his roles at Kaleida Health included chief of staff, senior vice president of marketing, public affairs & business development, and vice president and chief marketing officer. Before joining Kaleida Health, Hughes was the public affairs and marketing manager for Rural/Metro Medical Services, where he managed media, government and community relations, marketing, business development, and contract compliance in upstate New York. He also served as the statewide public information officer for their Disaster Response Team, including during the period following September 11, 2001. Earlier in his career, he was the Director of Communications for Erie County government. Hughes is also a founding partner of Egret Healthcare Ventures, established in 2020, which invests in medical device innovation. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Medaille College and a bachelor's in communication from Canisius College. He also completed Harvard Business School's executive program with a focus on healthcare management. Hughes has been recognized as one of Western New York's most influential leaders and has received numerous awards for his work in communications and community service. He has also served on several boards and committees, including the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, where he became the youngest Commissioner in its history upon his initial appointment in 2008 and later served as Chair. He is set to join Masiello, Martucci & Associates as a partner in January 2025.

Alyson Spaulding

General Counsel

Alyson Spaulding is the General Counsel at Kaleida Health. She was appointed to this role in March 2015, having previously served as interim general counsel since August 2014. Spaulding has been with Kaleida Health since its inception. In her position as General Counsel, she is responsible for providing primary legal counsel for Kaleida Health and its corporate affiliates. Her oversight also includes Risk Management, Emergency Management, Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance, and Research Management. Before becoming General Counsel, Spaulding was the associate general counsel for Corporate Risk Management at Kaleida Health. In this role, she directed risk management, emergency management, and regulatory affairs, and managed the commercial insurance portfolio and legal services related to professional and general liability. Spaulding is a graduate of the University of Rochester, where she double-majored for her bachelor's degree, and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University College of Law, where she was a member of both the Law Review and Moot Court. She was born in Buffalo. In 2020, she was appointed to the New York State Council of Business Leaders in Support of Access to Justice. She has been in the health field for 24 years as of a 2017 article.

Thomas Hull

Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer

Thomas Hull is the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Kaleida Health, appointed to the permanent role in January 2022 after serving as interim CIO since February 2021. He is an information technology leader with 30 years of experience. Prior to joining Kaleida Health as Chief Technology Officer, Hull was the CTO for the City University of New York (CUNY). His career includes IT leadership positions in various healthcare, higher education, and academic medical center environments, such as VCU Health, USF Health, Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida, and Pace New York Medical. Hull holds a Bachelor of Arts in computer information science from State University of New York at Potsdam and a Master of Science in computer engineering from Syracuse University. He is also pursuing a Doctorate of Professional Studies in computer science and information technology at Pace University. He has been involved in organizing Kaleida Health's three-year IT strategic plan and the health system's partnership with Infor to move applications to the cloud.

Michael Mineo, MD, FACEP, MMM

Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer

Appointed chief medical officer (CMO) for Kaleida Health in July 2022 after serving in the interim role since March 2022. [5] A resident of Buffalo, Dr. Mineo received his Bachelor of Science from Canisius College. [5] He is a graduate of University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where he completed residency in Emergency Medicine. [5]

Jamie Nadler, MD

Chief Quality Officer

Named chief quality officer for Kaleida Health in March 2022. [5] Dr. Nadler leads quality and patient safety for the entire organization as well as ensures continuous quality of care, patient satisfaction and compliance with various accrediting organizations and regulatory bodies. [5]

Kenneth Snyder, MD, PhD

Chief Physician Quality Officer

Kenneth V. Snyder, MD, PhD, is the Chief Physician Quality Officer at Kaleida Health. In this role, he oversees physician quality and leads Kaleida Health's Quality & Patient Safety Institute. Prior to this position, Dr. Snyder served as physician advisor, process improvement at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute. He is also an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and an assistant professor of radiology and neurology at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB). Dr. Snyder joined UB Neurosurgery in 2011 after completing his fellowship training in endovascular neurosurgery at UB and spending six months as a research fellow at the Barrow Neurological Institute. He completed his neurosurgical residency at UB and earned his PhD in biophysics from UB, specializing in mechanoelectric transduction of cellular membranes. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. His training includes general neurosurgical procedures, with special interests in physiological imaging of the brain, acute stroke management, and endovascular techniques for neurovascular pathology.

Mary Lou Rusin

EVP, Chief Human Resources Officer

Mary Lou Rusin is the EVP, Chief Human Resources Officer at Kaleida Health. She has nearly 30 years of experience in the human resources field. She joined Kaleida Health in 2006 as a corporate recruiter and was later promoted to director of corporate employment and then served as vice president. In October 2019, she was named executive vice president and chief human resources officer for Kaleida Health. Prior to her time at Kaleida Health, she was a human resources director for Clairol. She also owned and operated Klee & Associates, Inc., a distribution company for specialty operating room equipment, and spent 10 years as a general manager for a recruitment firm in Denver, CO. Mary Lou Rusin holds an Ed.D. and is a Registered Nurse. She was also listed as Adjunct Faculty in Graduate Nursing at Daemen University in their 2022-2023 catalog. In a 2012-2013 catalog for Buffalo, she is listed as Mary Lou Rusin, R.N., Ed.D., Chair, Nursing Department, Daemen College.
