Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox recently announced the renaming of its Center for Women's Health to the Silver Cross Center for Breast Health. According to Marci Vasiliades, administrative director of imaging services at Silver Cross, the name change was made to better reflect the services offered, as the center has increasingly focused on breast procedures since moving to its new location. In addition to the renaming, the center has expanded its capabilities by adding a fourth mammography machine last fall and is planning to add a third breast ultrasound machine soon. Vasiliades also noted that the new name acknowledges that the center provides services for both women and men, as men can also be affected by breast cancer. The Silver Cross Foundation recently awarded over $115,000 in scholarships to 81 hospital employees, their children, and volunteers to help further their education and training in healthcare. This was the second consecutive year the annual Scholarship Luncheon was hosted during National Hospital Week, according to Michael Mutterer, CEO and President of Silver Cross Hospital. The scholarships are made possible by generous benefactors who support the hospital's mission and vision, enabling employees to pursue further education, advance their careers, and enhance patient care. The awards for the 2025-2026 academic year included various named scholarships such as the Blanca Garcia Nursing Scholarship, The Strive Advocacy Group Healthcare Educational Scholarship, TwoSweetKids Scholarship, Harold Pascal Memorial Scholarship, Donna and Jim Galligan Scholarship, Dr. Fawzai Batti-Hindo, MD Memorial Pathology Scholarship, Olivia Kresach Memorial Scholarship, Janet Fagan Nursing Scholarships, and the Ruth Colby Memorial Scholarship.
