Hudson Regional Hospital has finalized its takeover of three Hudson County hospitals previously operated by CarePoint Health, forming a new four-hospital system called Hudson Health System [2]. The hospitals included in this network are Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center, and Jersey City's Christ Hospital [2]. This development followed CarePoint Health's financial struggles and Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in late 2024 [2, 10]. The acquisition aims to stabilize and modernize the facilities, enhance services, and improve patient care across Hudson County [2, 3]. Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla expressed support for the takeover, citing Hudson Regional Hospital's successful turnaround of Meadowlands Hospital [2, 12]. Hoboken's Only Hospital (Hoboken University Medical Center) is now part of the Hudson Regional Hospital Network. All four of Hudson Regional's hospitals (Bayonne Medical Center, Hudson Regional Hospital, Jersey City's Christ Hospital, and Hoboken University Medical Center) now operate under one healthcare network: Hudson Health System. CarePoint Health Chairman and CEO Dr. Achintya Moulick stated this new system will “[create] the scale and geographic coverage required to provide premier services to the entire county” and that “Residents can look forward to expanded services, cutting-edge technology, and an unwavering focus on patient-centered care” [17]. CarePoint Health, the previous parent company, filed for bankruptcy in late 2024 [17].

CarePoint Health exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved a deal to transfer operational control of the system's three hospitals to Hudson Regional Hospital [7]. The New Jersey-based nonprofit health system filed for bankruptcy protections in November, citing a “dramatic” increase in operating costs following the COVID-19 pandemic, insufficient state funds and reimbursement challenges [7]. Hudson Regional has been trying to purchase CarePoint’s hospital operations since 2020. Hudson Regional and CarePoint have had a tumultuous history. Within months of an announcement that the systems would merge, CarePoint entered talks to combine with another health system [7]. The deal with Hudson Regional subsequently fell apart, with Hudson Regional suing for breach of contract [7].
