A four-hospital system, Hudson Regional Health, has been officially formed as the final step in CarePoint Health's exit from bankruptcy. The system, which includes Secaucus-based Hudson Regional Hospital, Jersey City's Christ Hospital, Hoboken University Medical Center, and Bayonne Medical Center, along with over 70 affiliated locations, commenced operations under this new structure on May 22, 2025. This followed the approval of the bankruptcy plan by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kate Stickles on April 17. CarePoint Health had initially sought Chapter 11 protection on November 3, 2024. In January, the bankruptcy court approved an affiliation with Hudson Regional under the management services organization Hudson Health System as part of a restructuring plan. Hudson Regional had previously received a certificate of need from the New Jersey Department of Health in late March to become the permanent operator and owner of Bayonne Medical Center, a property it has owned since July 2020. Yan Moshe serves as chairman of the new Hudson Regional Health system, and Dr. Nizar Kifaieh is the CEO. Mr. Moshe contributed over $120 million to facilitate CarePoint's bankruptcy exit and fund facility upgrades. The release from Hudson Regional Health shared with Becker's highlighted the intention to substantially modernize facilities and practices in each location and leverage the new scale to deliver greater value to patients, building on the healthcare model established at Hudson Regional Hospital. Hoboken University Medical Center, Hoboken's only hospital, is set to become part of the Hudson Regional Hospital network under the newly formed Hudson Health System. This follows Hudson Regional's successful takeover of three of CarePoint Health's hospitals. In late March, the Hoboken City Council discussed a potential redevelopment plan for three sites associated with Hoboken University Medical Center: a neighborhood health center, a parking garage, and the hospital section itself. CarePoint Health, the previous operator of Hoboken University Medical Center, Christ Hospital, and Bayonne Medical Center, had faced significant financial difficulties since 2020, leading to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in November 2024. Despite previous conflicts, Hudson Regional Hospital provided CarePoint with $25 million in interim funding for the hospitals. On April 11, 2025, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kate Stickles approved Hudson Regional's takeover plan, granting them control of all three former CarePoint sites and their affiliated centers. The four hospitals now operate under the single Hudson Health System network. Dr. Achintya Moulick, former CarePoint Health Chairman and CEO, stated that this new system will provide the necessary scale and geographic coverage for premier services across the county, promising expanded services, advanced technology, and a focus on patient-centered care. Yan Moshe, Chairman of Hudson Regional Hospital, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the opportunity to modernize facilities and improve value for patients. Hudson Regional Hospital plans to update each of the newly acquired sites, with renovations already underway at Bayonne Medical Center, including a remodeled Emergency Department and other facility enhancements.
