Roche Diagnostics Corporation filed a lawsuit against Insight Foundation of Trumbull in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, seeking nearly $300,000 for unpaid expenses. Roche Diagnostics provides medical tests and tools and had an existing agreement with Steward Health Care, the former owner of Trumbull Regional Hospital and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Ohio. According to the lawsuit, after Insight Foundation took over management of these hospitals following Steward's bankruptcy, a Michigan-based affiliate of Insight Foundation informed Roche that Insight would be responsible for hospital expenses starting in September 2024. Roche claims it sent invoices to Insight Foundation for goods and services, but these invoices totaling $294,646.55 have not been paid. This lawsuit adds to the legal challenges faced by Insight following the abrupt closure of the two Ohio hospitals in late March 2025, which also led to widespread staff furloughs and impacted hundreds of healthcare workers. Phillips Medical Capital, LLC filed an emergency motion in court regarding the sale of Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, the two Ohio hospitals that were acquired by Insight Health System and subsequently closed. Phillips Medical Capital claimed they had leased medical equipment to both hospitals in 2019 and that this equipment could not be sold without being returned to them. They alleged that since the hospitals' closure in March, some equipment had been removed and Insight had not been communicative regarding the return of their property. A judge granted the motion the same day, ordering Insight to allow Phillips to retrieve their equipment from the hospitals within five days. This legal action is related to the fallout from the hospitals' closure, which Insight blamed on a lack of funding from the previous owner, Steward Health Care. [12]

Two weeks after Insight Health Systems suspended services at its hospitals in Trumbull County, Ohio, union leaders report that employees have been paid and communication has seen slight improvement. [22] According to a union leader, employees received approximately three weeks of back pay. [22] Health insurance for all employees has reportedly been restored until the end of April. [22] Weekly Q&A sessions are now scheduled between union leaders and Insight's communication team. [22] There are alleged initial plans by Insight to reopen the emergency room and outpatient services at one of the hospitals, which would necessitate bringing back staff in areas like x-ray and laboratory, but a specific reopening date remains unclear. [22] Meanwhile, Ohio U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno is awaiting a response to his letter threatening a federal investigation into Insight, Steward Health Care, and Medical Properties Trust if a response is not received promptly. Insight Health System is facing a federal class action lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The lawsuit was filed by David McCullough, a terminated employee of Insight Rehabilitation Hospital Hillside, on behalf of himself and other employees at Insight's Trumbull County facilities, including Insight Hospital Medical Center Trumbull and Insight Rehabilitation Center Hillside. The core of the complaint is the alleged failure of Insight to provide employees with a 60-day advance written notice of termination, as required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. The lawsuit claims that employees were initially told they were temporarily furloughed and would remain on payroll to receive accrued vacation time, but they were not paid for this time or for at least three weeks of wages prior to termination. Additionally, health insurance benefits were allegedly terminated abruptly despite deductions from paychecks. The lawsuit seeks lost wages and benefits for the 60-day notice period, as well as other damages, and names Insight Foundation of Hillside, Insight Foundation of Trumbull, and Firdaus Foundation (identified as a Michigan-based nonprofit operating as Insight Foundation of America and owner of Insight Health System) as defendants. Insight Health System did not respond to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit. [17, 18, 22]
