Executive Leadership

Kenneth D. Gibbs

President and CEO

Has served as CEO of Maimonides Medical Center (MMC) since January 2016. In March 2022, he also took on the role of President of Maimonides Health, the Brooklyn-based health system that includes both MMC and Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital (MMCH) as well as a broad network of ambulatory services. [1] Joined the Board of Trustees at Maimonides Medical Center in 2013 and was Chair from May 2014 through December 2015. [1] Under his leadership, MMC has continued to build upon its legacy of clinical excellence and innovation, achieving designation as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center and establishing Brooklyn's only Pediatric Trauma Center and Comprehensive Spine Center. [1] Has overseen the development of several significant capital and strategic initiatives, including the formation of a relationship with MMCH in 2018, leading up to an affiliation agreement in 2021, and the issuance of $140 million in bonds in 2020 for modernization. [1] Chairs the Board of Healthfirst and serves on the Board of the Greater New York Hospital Association and the Healthcare Association of New York State. [1] Before Maimonides, was President of the Municipal Securities Group of Jefferies, LLC, CEO of DEPFA First Albany Securities, LLC, and held leadership positions at First Albany Capital, Inc. [1]

David I. Cohen

EVP, Population Health & Academic Affairs

David I. Cohen, M.D., M.Sc., is the Executive Vice President for Population Health & Academic Affairs at Maimonides Medical Center. He holds a B.A. and M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.Sc. in Epidemiology and Health from McGill University, where he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. Dr. Cohen's career includes significant roles at other major healthcare institutions. He served as Director of Ambulatory Care and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, Vice President for Medical Operations for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, Deputy Dean for Clinical Affairs at the City University of New York Sophie Davis Medical School, and Medical Director at Bellevue Hospital Center before joining Maimonides. He is also an internist with over 50 years of experience. Dr. Cohen serves on several boards, including Housing Works, the Brooklyn Health Home, Healthix, and the New York eHealth Collaborative.

Laurie Weinstein

EVP, Legal Affairs & General Counsel

Laurie E. Weinstein is the Executive Vice President, Legal Affairs & General Counsel at Maimonides Health. She has an extensive background in the healthcare industry, having held various executive legal positions representing large multi-specialty medical groups and integrated health care delivery systems. Weinstein began her career in private practice after graduating from Suffolk University Law School. She then served as assistant general counsel at the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and later as associate counsel for the University of Massachusetts. Her experience also includes roles as deputy general counsel at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and as managing counsel and acting general counsel at The Permanente Medical Group. She joined Maimonides Medical Center in October 2020.

Robert Press

EVP, Medical Affairs

Robert Press is the Executive Vice President, Medical Affairs at Maimonides Health. He has over twenty years of experience in medical affairs. Prior to joining Maimonides, he served as the Chief Operating Officer at NYU Langone Medical Center from January 2015 to June 2018. He has held his current role at Maimonides Medical Center since May 2019. Dr. Press holds an MD and a PhD from New York University, and completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Montefiore Medical Center, and residencies in Medicine at NYU Medical Center and Beth Israel Hospital. He has experience leading teams focused on quality and patient safety, utilizing data analysis to improve care, and fostering a compassionate and equitable care environment.

Heshy Augenbaum

VP, Philanthropy

Heshy Augenbaum serves as the Vice President, Philanthropy and Chief Development Officer at Maimonides Medical Center, a role he has held since April 2016. Prior to joining Maimonides, he had a career in the Torah institutional world where he was involved in establishing an international network of day schools, building batei medrash, and expanding community services. He also has experience as a Vice President in a self-employed capacity.
