The Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) Office of Disaster Services and the DMH's Behavioral Health Strike Team (BHST) have been deployed to St. Louis to provide crisis counseling services to individuals impacted by the EF-3 tornado that struck on May 16th. The DMH teams will continue to provide crisis counseling through June at various locations, including the Disaster Assistance Center, shelters, and within the affected community. They are also prepared to offer crisis counseling services once FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are established. Additionally, the DMH is in the process of applying for the FEMA crisis counseling program to ensure ongoing mental health support is available to the St. Louis community for an extended period following the disaster.
