Virtua Health is expanding its Pediatric Mobile Services with the introduction of a second vehicle, named "Sunny." [16, 19] This expansion, supported by a $1 million pledge from the Joseph Lacroce Foundation, is expected to increase the program's reach by 70%, allowing the pediatric team to serve more children. [19] With the addition of the new vehicle and an expanded staff, the program now operates six days a week, offering multiple services during a single visit and reaching a greater number of locations. [19] In 2024, the Pediatric Mobile Services program provided free screenings and health services to over 10,000 children. [19] The program plays a crucial role in providing essential healthcare access to children in the community, with a significant percentage of children screened being referred to additional services. [19]

Virtua Health has improved its revenue cycle operations by implementing automated Notice of Admissions (NOA). This change has led to less manual work, allowing staff to operate more efficiently. Submissions are now quicker and more accurate, resulting in fewer denials and increased revenue. The automation also facilitates smoother dispute resolution due to the availability of electronic paper trails and better compliance with payer requirements. Previously, manually faxing NOAs was described as an administrative nightmare, time-consuming, inefficient, and risky, with the potential for missed deadlines and delayed payments due to connectivity issues, faulty fax machines, and human error. Adhering to varied rules and deadlines for multiple payers also made the manual process challenging to control. [7]

Virtua Health is the first provider in South Jersey to implement a new groundbreaking lung cancer technology called Cytalux® (pafolacianine). This innovative drug is administered intravenously before surgery and binds to lung cancer cells, causing them to light up when viewed through a special surgical camera. This enhanced visibility allows surgeons to more accurately see the edges of tumors and identify second tumors that may not have been visible on imaging scans, ultimately aiding in better removal of malignant growths and preservation of healthy tissue. According to thoracic surgeon Matthew Puc, MD, this technology has the potential to reduce recurrence rates and increase survival rates for lung cancer patients. In clinical trials, Cytalux helped surgeons find lung cancer lesions that were not detectable with standard methods in 19% of patients and identified second cancerous lesions missed by pre-operative imaging in 8% of patients. This adoption by Virtua Health signifies their commitment to bringing advanced cancer care to the region. [14]

The health system offers a comprehensive range of services, including 70 inpatient beds and a team of over 60 certified behavioral health professionals. The recognition also highlighted Virtua's licensed clinical social workers embedded within 28 primary care offices, the CASTLE program for youth with mental health diagnoses, advanced interventional psychiatry options like electroconvulsive therapy, and its perinatal mood and anxiety disorder program.
